Anyone using just a spin-on filter on the block...

So the three filters that work with this conversion are:
WIX 51040
ph 454
pf47
Is this correct to assume?

I am going to buy all three and see what works best unless these won't work?

I did a cross-reference on the Wix 51040 & bought the K&N equivalent (HP-1001).
I have not installed it on the block yet.

For anyone looking for a filter, the things that matter are:

Thread - 18mm x 1.5
O.D. - 2.921" (there is a degree of flexibility in going a little bigger or smaller here)
Height - Anything over 5" is probably gonna be impossible (see below for reference)

Stock - WIX 51036 - 4.828" (2nd longest 18mm filter WIX makes)
Short - WIX 51040 - 3.404" (shortest 18mm filter WIX makes)

If you wish to delete ONLY the COOLER and lines to it, but leave the filter in the stock 'fender' location, use P/N 12551416 filter housing. This one doesn't have the holes drilled for the cooler hoses. About 35.00 at the stealer.

I ordered one of these last week for $29.99. I got around picking it up today AND I was surprised to see that it already had a PF52 attached. Not to bad of a deal.

Thanks Dave.

if you have a gilbert or 4wd front propshaft the stock PF52 filter will fit with the direct screw in 2wd adaptor. it's smaller up front than the stock propshaft and gives you the needed room.

in my oppinion the lines, remote filter and aftermarket coolers are a great choice for anyone doing autocross, track events, towing of any sorts...... , and to some extent street driving. basically anything that puts the truck under load for extended periods of time. not very important for drag racing or any short term spurts of boost.

E85 burnes significantly cooler than gas and keeps the bottom end, as well as oil temps much cooler. if your doing E85 or any significant percentage of ethanol blended gas, go for it. you wont need an aftermarket or even the stock oil cooler. this is just one more thing that cleans up my engine bay.

just to make a note for everyone, wanting to ditch the remote filter and put it on the block. i removed the brass fitting from my oil filter adapter and it threaded right into the hole on the block.

if i drive my truck hard for an extended time (120mph+). i can see my oil temp climbing 20-30 degrees at the oilfilteradpater (stock) my idle oilpressure drops 10-15psi.
don't know if we all drive our trucks like i do (hope not). but i think the cooler is a thing i can't live with

Not sure if this has been mentioned or if it will for sure work but go to the dealer and look up a '85 monte carlo 4.3 and buy the nipple for that. I wanna say its less than ten bucks and it should work just remove all the factory stuff and thread that in there and screw on filter.
I bought that nipple but I am running a canton racing oil filter adaptor and filter.

S10's without the EOC in the radiator also have a spin on adapter that goes into the block. Probably the same thing. That's what I installed & why I was looking for an oil filter that would work with it.

Well the thing I'm talking about is just the threaded nipple, it has a allen on the inside so you can tighten it.
If you click on my pics in my sig and go to the finally an update then the new oil cooler adaptor pic you can see the nipple I'm talking about. It was real cheap and maybe a good option for those looking to do this.

Total BS on the 10mm allen wrench. I tried one on my remote nipple and a boneyard truck with no luck. Ordered it from the stealer for ONLY $14

Re: Anyone using just a spin-on filter on the block...

i looked at my stock one and it's not removable, the one i pulled it from was off the 2001 oil cooler setup i got with my new motor, i didn't mess with the stock pieces cause i thought somebody might need them. my bad i should have corrected my post. now the 93 i looked at in the yard that had a filter on the block looked like an allen head would remove it. i didn't pull it cause i didn't have that with me.
