Tuning with WB

Should have the wide band install finished tomorrow. I've read a bunch of posts but wanted to run my plan past you folks.

1) Fire it up, make sure everything works, have a reading of some sort (obviously) check Dm to make sure I'm getting a NB reading off the ECM.

2) Go for a drive, look at what's going on, all this with meth turned off.

3) Do a boost launch to about 90-100 and see what happens, still with meth off.

4) Turn on meth, repeat 2 & 3, a few times if necessary.

5) Report results here and get feedback.

(Who knows it may run great and I'll have no issues,

Whadda ya think?

I do have one Q right away. I see where people say they're getting WB data to Datamaster. How do you do that without sending WB data to a patched ECM? I would really like it if I can do this.

Anyway,

Thanks all.

That is the only way . Just patch your bin(s) and wire your wb02 output into the ecm . Then datalog and see whats happening where and adjust accordingly .

Sorry for the DAQ but how does one go about patching bin(s)?

Meantime I'll run on NB and see what happens. Sy has been sitting for about two months now I need to start it anyway. Old school ya know... 'sides, supposed to be some good weather for a change and I'm having withdrawal.

TIA

Re: Tuning with WB

check out digware.lunarpages.com. dig has step-by-step instructions on how to patch a bin. Once you have it patched, you will need to flash it to a chip or upload it to an ostrich, etc. you should then see the WB in the AFR in DM.

or there are stock bins floating around that have been patched for WB input.

No reason to go out and do a boost launch right away, take things SLOW.

Re: Tuning with WB

Don...if you need the bin patched, shoot it over....I'll do it for you really quickly. Once patched, you can modify the bin as you like and not need repatching.

Re: Tuning with WB

OK guys, time to acknoledge my ignorance. What, exactly is a, or the, bin? I've seen the term used like I did above but just not sure what it is. Chip, yes. ECM, yes. PROM, yes. BIN???

Thanks all and don't hit me to hard.

Re: Tuning with WB

BIN is the actualy file or calibration data on the chip. Think of it as the data on your harddrive.

Re: Tuning with WB

Don....I meant to reply to your PM today, sorry. Like Jeff said, the BIN is the BINary data that you actually modify in the EPROM. It's the "code" that the ECM uses to make the vehicle operate. I was under the impression that you were doing your own chips, and therefore offered to modify your bin via e-mail so that all you had to do was burn it to your EPROM or upload it via your emulator.

Offer still stands if you want to mail your chip and have me modify it for you (would be a good opportunity to make some other changes if you'd like). Just LMK if that interests you.

Re: Tuning with WB

So if I'm gonna get my bin patched (sounds like something you'd do to your kid:rotf: ) then I send away the chip. Is that correct?

Correct, if you don't have the capability yourself, then one of the tuners on here (Jeff, myself, Dig, etc...) can accomodate. Reburning stockers is easy with the right adapter.

Re: Tuning with WB

Just read SYTY's post. No prob. Can I send you my Ultimate? Does that work?

Sure...but like Jeff said, if tuning interests you then now is the time to get started. Equipment is cheap, support is at your finger tips, and the rewards are tenfold compared to what someone can do over the internet. No one can tune your truck as good as you. You'll be driving it, racing it, etc... so you'll know what it needs and can handle. Once you have the equipment, tuning is cake. The TunerPro RT/Ostrich combo makes it so simple for a first-timer to step into.

Makes me envious of you guys, cause I learned how to chip from Dig and Green and Grumpy back when hex editors were all the rage. :rotf:
