I beg you for help!

I have been trying to get my truck running for over a year now and cant seem to figure out what is wrong with it. I know it is fuel pump related so allow me to fill you in on where I am at at this point.....
A year ago my pump is dead so I change it myself. Runs fine for a few days then starts blowing the ECMB fuses like crazy, so I figure there is a short or something in the fuel pump or the oil switch....so I change the pump again but this time I buy everything, hanger, pump, strainer ect...all Delco parts.....put it together and wala!!! truck runs fine now more blowing fuses. Now the truck sits the winter and it wont start. I prime the pump manually and it works but when I turn the key it wont prime and it wont start at all. I cant figure it out, the pump isnt dead and it isnt the Fuse this time so I am assuming it has nothing to do with the Oil Senser switch. The only thing I think it could be at this point is my alarm system shorting, a dead wire somewhere in the ignition system, or ECM is dead. Please someone help me, I am on the verge of burning this thing....FYI IT is a 93 ty with 24k on it and has been garaged since 1998 and driven occationally.

Please anyone give me some input here.

Thanks!!!

Re: I beg you for help!

If you had put in a Walbro fuel pump, they often need one size larger fuse (off the top of my head 20 Amps) .

Re: I beg you for help!

Try the Fuel pump relay, its over the brake booster, there are two of them, switch them out and see if it works. Or are they over the dist? either way thats what youre looking for.

Re: I beg you for help!

would the relay cause the pump not to prime??? If it was bad what would happen? thanks!

O and forgot to mention i changed the fuel filter also.

Yes, and like Dave said I had to bump my fuse up 5, because it kept blowing

Re: I beg you for help!

switch the two relays over top of the brake booster.. see if it works if so then you have a relay to replace.

Re: I beg you for help!

Do you have a Check Engine light on with ign.? No CEL means no ECM.

Re: I beg you for help!

i would try sending voltage down the fuel pump test wire and see if it works. will narrow it down either way.

Yup:

"Applying 12 volts to fuel pump test connector to troubleshoot fuel pump or set fuel pressure with vacuum line still connected and motor off (note fuse for safety)."

Hook up a scan tool... check if you have reference pulses coming in to the ECM.
(IE, bad ignition module)

Yup that's another possibility. A bad ignition module won't generate a reference pulse preventing the injectors from firing. Part number is 1048-2827 (located under your distributor cap, BTW).

Re: I beg you for help!

check ecm b fuse and all fuses.dont just replace the relay you can test there and troubleshoot. jump the 30 and 87 with a jumper wire and see if it turns on. does a test light between 85 and 86 light the lamp koeo and cranking?

Re: I beg you for help!

Not to try and dismiss any of the great advice that's being handed out here, but how did we get to a possible ign module / ref. pulse issue? The original post stated that he had no fuel pump prime, which has nothing to do with ignition modules or ref. pulses.

If he hot wired the pump and it pressured up then he shouldn't be looking at his ign. system, yet. Unless, it still won't start. Then, I'd be looking at the ign. system.

Post up VinPecora. This thread is all about you Buddy!
