Rebuild Tranny or not

I Love My Ty's
I am getting ready to install a pte-44 turbo and larger injectors. I have a Yank torque converter that I will be in installing it this time. My question is should I rebuild my transmission and beef it up a little bit while I have it out replacing my torque converter or not. I have had no problems with the transmission at all. But It is a stock tranny.

Re: Rebuild Tranny or not

guess it depends on your budget,i had my stock trans last for over 3 years with a 52 turbo, and it worked untill i built the new motor and had a built trans done,i guess only thing is now maybe since its not broke it might be a bit cheaper,i would contact waller or blake on this.

You have to watch out. If the converter is loose enough, it will cause your shift points to go out of whack and basically throw the entire transmission calibration off. I have plenty of DM files from trucks with high stalls that ended up shifting at 5000+, and a stock motor HP just DIES after 4600...

I'm pretty sure some people have run high stall converters on stock trans without these problems. So it can be a gamble.

Re: Rebuild Tranny or not

Let me do the syty build on it.
Reaction shaft, reinforced hub, updated sprag, sun shell and reinforced drum. New clutches and steels with increased capacity. Just do a 4th gear servo. 2nd syty servo is perfect for shift timing. New band. We'd keep shift feel the same. 4th would feel a bit firmer but that's it. Probably just do a Yank converter since it's sub 600HP. It's up to you. It's better to build them while they are in semi good shape. You blow one up inside and you end up replacing a LOT more than you need to.
