to the @$$hole who sold me my first ty...

...i freakin' salute you. you jerk! don't get me wrong i love the ty. have always wanted one and now i've got one. don't know how to tell what # it is so i can't say until some1 schools me.
first of all, found the ty on craigslist. 3 for sale. 2 in sorry @$$ austin,tx. where i'm from and 1 in colorado. colorado isn't that far from me plus the ty in col. was cheaper w/a huge list of mods. the 2 in austin were stock and more expensive. so i flew up to col. and drove it back. about 1000 miles or so.
the ty was supposed to safe enough to drive home, or so he said. a few miles from his house i start noticing it's little qwuirks. trani is slipping, alternator is cracked in 2 places. it's amazingly held by some aftermarket adjustable bracket and oddly enough...the belt. WTF?!?! too late to turn back now. don't even know where i'm at. spoolin' up to pass a vehicle and a huge @$$ pop sound from engine bay. ty no longer wants to spool. i pull over on the side of the highway in the dark and freezing cold. had to use the light from my cell phone to see. anyways, the silicone boot to the throttle body popped off. tried to put it back on by hand until i can get to a gas station for some tools. that happens a few more times b4 i can find a gas station.
a few more problems like a loose connection to the battery. no jumper cables and almost every1 at the gas station that asked for help was a complete jerk as well.
i drive the ty for less than a week after i get home in the same condition as i bought it in and the trani goes out. i only have 1st and reverse and the new alternator starts cracking in the same place as the old one. WTF?!?! i noticed when the turbo kicks it pulls that hard on the alternator( via the serp belt). weird.
i did take the ty for a test drive and he had excuses for everything i asked. i knew i would run into problems being so far from home and being on my own. however, had he just been upfront with everthing i still would of bought it.

Hi, welcome to the forums!!!

Congrats on your purchase. Im not sure if he lied to you or not about a lot of the things, but it seems as though maybe you should have looked a little more thoroughly at the truck before buying. I really wouldnt be suprised if you have problems with a 120k mile truck thats pretty heavily modified. Thats why the stock trucks sell for more. Either way these trucks are a love/hate relationship, but im sure when you get the bugs worked out you will be happy you bought it. Good luck!

thanx for the welcome and replies. # 1058 and believe me this ty is a keeper. if anything it's an investment for me.

lol
these trucks are not an investment unless you mean that in a $100 bonfire sort of way...

Anyhow enjoy the truck and get yourself some xanax because the headaches have just begun.

If the motor is flexing over when your brake torque it is more than likely your motor mounts.
Is there an engine tie down connected to the alternator?
If there is it needs to be attached to the bracket and not the alt itself.
Most of us run a tie down until we can yank the motor or the front diff to do the mounts.
you do not want to do those unless you make LOTS of room under there.

Is the prev owner a board member here?

check your motormounts. i think they put a strap down kit inthere. to hold the engine in place with a broken motormounth.
seems like a nice engine. with some nice mods.

Don't take anybody's word for anything!!!! You have to validate what they say and yes, it requires legwork. I trusted a seller from Albaqueque NM when I bought my 93 Ty. Oh yes, it was promised to run perfect!! It barely started to get it off the transport truck and then started once after it was in my garage. It did have some nice mods, and I have all but recouped 1/2 my money from selling the nice parts but I learned a valuable lesson in the process. There are plenty of guys around with experience to check trucks out for potential buyers. If you ever get the urge to buy again and it is NOT a 1 owner vehicle, you better send out a SOS for some Pro's on here to assist you. Hope you got yours cheap enough that the tranny repair won't discourage you. It might be cheaper to buy a used one on here. I think a seller in NJ has a very low mileage top of the line built tranny in the classified section for $1,500 which is quite cheap and he is a solid, straight forward shooter. If you can just talk him into freighting it to you.....would cost about $200.

he said he wasn't a member of any syty forums. he's lied about other stuff so your guess is as good as mine.
as for the the alt. i fabbed up a bracket to bolt to the back ground of the alt. to the header bolt. no more problems. the motor mts. are strong no flexing what so ever.
lost count with the headaches.

What DID you pay for it? Don't be embarrassed. It's part of figuring out"value".

"Stock ones cost more".... More that 'what'?

If people would start disclosing what they paid, it would be easier to determine value. There's a lot of opinion that "prices for these things are in the toilet". Maybe they are. But how does one know "what the toilet" is unless we know what they're exchanging for?

I know the actual selling price of one this year. A nice original Blk/Blk 92 w/ 94K for 10,000. That to me is not "the toilet". Buyer and seller were happy. And there were NO problems with it.

What did you pay???
Dave
i paid $7000 do yo think he got me on this one?

Truckless. For now.
Re: to the @$$hole who sold me my first ty...

I'm guessing it's the white/gray from Colorado Springs? It's always a good idea to check for info on a truck here, before commiting to buy one. I'm pretty sure Mike (TYTILIDIE) has seen that truck in person and knew it was a mess.

The good news is, with the help of the board, you can get it back into the condition it should be it.

Re: to the @$$hole who sold me my first ty...

like i said, i knew it would have it's problems, but come on, it's a typhoon. for me this is a dream come true. it's like being poor all your life and then al of a sudden>your rich. for me it's a BIG deal. for a rich guy it's like, eh, just another ty. no big deal.
i may have paid too much as you guys might think, but i guess i just got blinded by the simple fact that it is a typhoon. a bunch of my customers w/boosted hondas and acuras don't have any idea what this thing is. some are just flat out scared of it.
