I have been having problems with my tach being very optimistic for last 2 years. Now, it just meets up with the boost gauge when I go over 4k rpms and stays till i shut the truck off. Also, My speedometer now acts like a tach. If I accelerate hard, it will just fly over to 120mph and then come back down to 50 or so when the rpms decrease. I think it is probably the distributor. It is the stock one with 108k miles on it. It is actually on its second engine.

What brand do you guys go with? Autozone stuff? AC delco? MSD? Regular? Billet?. Prefered place to buy, Jegs? Summit? Crack dealer?

I am really hoping this clears it up, else i will be looking at gauge problems. The truck runs pretty good, but seems to be a bit more "lopey" than it used. The wires ans plugs have less than 100 miles on them.

Thanks.

Id go with MSD.

Stay far far far away from Vato Zone shit..
They dont know what they are doing, youd be lucky to get an alternator that would fit.

So "Cardone Remanufactured" is not a good choice. I guess they offer their lifetime warranty in prepairdness to fail. Jegs has this one "Accel 60114 - Accel Billetech Distributor" http://www.jegs.com/i/Accel/110/60114/10002/-1 I may look online for some reviews of it.

I had an issue like this when I bought my truck. Ended up being a grounding issue with the alternator. Check your gounds on the intake there behind the alternator and try swapping a new alternator in.

I did this on my truck with the same symptoms and it worked

I replaced my distributor with a rebuilt unit from Autozone and now I hear Electrical Interference (noice) through the radio. I have to assume the distributor caused it because I had no noice before I changed it. They also don't have the copper shield around the magnets which is probably what used to shield the interference. I bought another stock unit from one of the members here but I have not had a chance to swap it out. Good luck.
