Re: Lift Plate

Thanks Jeff - is there anything out there I can buy for cheap? Otherwise I guess I'll need a leveller

Any suggestions?

Bueller?

Re: Lift Plate

Turbotime made some lift plates at one time. Not sure if he has any. A few were given away at nats a few years back.

I always just use a chain, never used a leveler although i hear they are nice.

Re: Lift Plate

Dude,

how much shipped to the UK? Saw E-RUEs one and couldn't see the need for a $150 CNC milled slab of metal - saw a couple of guys had made their own for presumably a lot less.

:D

Re: Lift Plate

In regards to a lift plate, although i'm sure distributing the engine weight to all 12 bolt holes vs. 2 with a chain on the corners of the intake, the re-drilled vortecs don't have a whole bunch of threads holding the intake to the heads so i would aid on the side of caution.

I did however just install an engine with vortec heads and an edelbrock efi converted carb manifold using a lift plate.. talk about easy access to just about everything!!

Re: Lift Plate

The amount of people that do this I can't understand why we don't have reliable and common method for pulling the engine/ replacing it. The lift plate thing I thought would be standard.

Has anyone dropped an engine/trashed their intake. I wonder if the leaks that some get are because of deformation of the bolts on installation when using a plate.

So what should I do to lower the engine in safely? I will be doing it by myself more than likely. I ordered the load leveller from Eastwood (mentioned elsewhere) in the hope that would work.

Would it be difficult to install the intake when the block is already in the truck and then put the heads on? Wait...will refer to Tooky's thread :D

Why is it never easy (or cheap?!!)

Mike, can you make something for us pleeeease? :D

Re: Lift Plate

a chain with a bolt in the accessory hole of each cylinder head has worked well for years! Two people is always easier then one, and a good cherry picker with swivel hook helps also.

Re: Lift Plate

Used the Harbor Freight leveler when I put the Sy in... made it sooo much easier.

Re: Lift Plate

We have used the the chain with a bolt in the drivers side front and pass side rear method many times with success.
Just haven't done it on a syty yet.

I too would be skeptical of tearing up my $$$ lower intake with a lift plate.

Re: Lift Plate

i did it with a chain multiple times. the lift plate happend to be on the lower intake. i kinda liked it. a bit more easier to line it up with tha transmission, cause you can move the engine alot easier than with lifting it up from 2 point.
i really don't think you will destroy the lower intake.
