electrical problems

I am driving home from a labor day party last night and my truck starts getting mad at me. Again! To start off with the alt went out two days ago so that is brand new. I have had this problem a little bit before, but nothing as bad as last night. So, I am driving down the highway at 70 and I notice my tach flickering some; then my speedometer does the same thing; then my headlights, dashlights all flash out hard for one second and I lose all power(including engine). Then it all comes back on. Did this for 10 minutes. Mostly just a little flickering of my tach and speedometer. It did it a couple times before the new alternator, but never this bad. Battery connection/ground looks good. I don't even know where to start! Thanks for any insight.

Re: electrical problems

i believe factory wiring has the alt go to the starter then battery to starter. so to charge the battery it must go to the starter first, you could try running a direct run from battery to alt. and check all body and chassis grounds.

Re: electrical problems

Did you notice any UFOs flying overhead while this was happening? JK...... Sorry, I could not resist. :rotf:

Maybe your battery is shorting out internally causing the power surges. Also check your main POS+. cable to make sure it is not shorting out either. Good luck.
