Manual boost controller.

Re: Manual boost controller.

its not the computers fault, you have never given the computer the NEW information that you want to run over 20psi.

The MORE boost you run the easier it is for a controller it just needs to be told the correct information.

P.S. I hate manual boost controllers with a passion. Why chance a motor over a $20 part.

I agree for that kind of money you could be changing the boost control tables yourself
to do what you want... ie max boost where your setup is most efficient (including the turbo)
and sligltly less boost where its not to give you overall max power with little or no knock retard

Re: Manual boost controller.

Can you get control as solid as something like the profec with the stock solenoid? I thought about going back to it but I really enjoy being able to turn it on and off w/o popping open the laptop.

control ? yes.. not just what boost at what settings etc but how much control and how fast... ie to avoid spikes and to reduce lag by playing with the duty cycles.

im running a 5lb spring in my external... the ecm will add more boost where i want it

Not to mention, the ECM can do something an external never could- pull back boost when there's knock present.

Re: Manual boost controller.

Thanks for the info. I guess Im not really sure why they program an ultimate with a 24 psi setting if it never lets you run 24. 22 psi is probably enough boost anyways. That poor stock turbo will be having a hard time with 24.

Re: Manual boost controller.

The ultimate was programmed for fuel more than boost control. Fact is every turbo/truck will require slightly different boost control parameters to work properly.

Re: Manual boost controller.

I definitely disagree on the manual vs stock boost controller. On my truck it was the stock boost controller that was most dangerous, with large boost spikes and just a total lack of control. When I switched to a manual BoostValve it was one of the happiest days of my turbo tuning life - no bullshit.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information but the T3-24 allows boost at least 1-2 PSI over the rating before it does a fuel cut off. You have to remember that the Ultimate is not ONLY for stock turbos, but stock motors. So you could have a stock motor with a PTE turbo and still use the Ultimate like I did when I ran 11.79 @ 114 MPH with just an Ultimate Chip for Stock Injectors, alky, and PT51 on stock converter.

Yeah I hear a lot of conflicting info on this. I think Im just going to leave it alone for now.
Yeah Im pretty sure Im not hitting 24 psi on the 24 psi setting. Wondering if the turbo is just not able to make that much. I really doubt it though.

Re: Manual boost controller.

My stock turbo would spool like a mother. I am pretty sure it would hit 30 PSI in the blink of an eye if I let it. However the powerband ended at 20-21 PSI. 21-22 PSI was significantly slower (even at 0.0 knock) so there was no point in pushing it further.
