Need help w electrical gremlin

Ok, here's the problem...The Ty sometimes will start and run fine, but if I kill it and try and restart it nothing will come on, FP, intercooler pump, even lights wont work, the whole truck is dead. The key cylinder seems ok, but that wouldn't even matter with the head lights. I can keep trying and finally it will all kick on. Thought maybe a dead cell in the battery but I hooked up my jumper batt and it still does the same thing...Any ideas????

Check your connections at the battery.

could also be your starter going bad.
if you try to crank it. it won't turn but does draw all the amps from the battery.

sounds to me like a bad or lose and for sure, check inside the bat cable ends, sometimes they rot right out in the ends.

Thanks for the info guys..I did a quick check of those earlier but will give it a more thorough inspection..didn't check the ground on the back of the head tho...Cause what's weird is the whole truck has no power...headlights, radio, interior lights, FP...then in just a few minutes everything fires up. I'll check out the connections better that is what is has to be...

Re: Need help w electrical gremlin

Not sure on the Ty but check the connection at the back of the alt. On the Sy everything starts there. Also the two fuse links that are right there. My truck and the manuals are not at home so I can't check but is there a circuit breaker on the fuse panel at all? Almost sounds like a CB is getting hot, tripping, cooling off and resetting.

The battery could have a cracked strap leading to the cells. BE CAREFUL. I had one blow up in my face cause I yanked up on the terminal to see if it was tight and BOOM! Wear you safety goggles!

Definitely sounds like a bad terminal or connection though.

X2 There are two kinds of people; those who have and those who will... fill in the blank, as above. :squint: Easiest way to do this to try to jump a bat that is old and gassing, get the jumper cables backwards and make the last connection at the gassing bat. Big spark followed immediately by kaboom!

I was aware of the hazards, but I figured since I wasn't creating a spark there would be no danger. The dome light and hood light was enough of a draw to create a spark internally when I yanked on the terminal. I was VERY lucky to have had the foresight to turn my head the other direction before yanking.
