Taylor wires VS. MSD wires

Syclone#2960

What ever it takes!!
So I got a set of taylor 8mm spiro pro series wires today and decided to compare them to my old MSD 8.5 super conductor spark plug wires.

My test consisted of using an OHM meter set at 2000.
I tested the wires with the straight boots.
Taylor=938
MSD=139

Very disappointing. I thought for sure the Taylors would have less resistance.

I like MSD wires. I don't know why everyone doesn't like them here. I plan on using them on my build.

Re: Taylor wires VS. MSD wires

I had mentioned something about Taylors and their inconsistant resistance numbers a couple years ago, Im sure the post is still somewhere on here.

I had a set of 2 year old Taylors on my truck, put a new set on and it ran worse. I thought I might have crossed a wire or something. I checked the old wires vs. the new ones and the old ones had far less resistance than the new ones did, so I cleaned the old ones up with come brake parts cleaner and put them back on. Not sure if I have another set of Taylors laying around or not, but Ill probably never use them.

Re: Taylor wires VS. MSD wires

I must say the taylors snap in to the plugs much much easier than the msds. I think I will just continue to use taylors.

The ATR black beauties were my favorite by far... but since they no longer exist...

Never liked the Taylor's. Dameon and I have ohm a couple sets and found crazy inconsistencies. I put a new set on our Teal Ty... worked ok for a 1000 miles, and I think one of them is gone already... All the trucks I used the ATRs on...,.no issues, perfect idle etc.

In short.. won't use them, don't recommend them.

Re: Taylor wires VS. MSD wires

I just checked two wires out of a brand new set of Taylors.

Plug wire for Cylinder #1 = 36" long - tested at 982 ohms (divide that by 3 and you get 327 ohms per foot)

Plug wire for Ignition Coil = 12" long - tested at 329 ohms

That's about what you'd expect out of a $39 set of wires.

I just checked a set of 8mm, lifetime warranty, stock wires as well.........2327 ohms per foot.

Michael do you carry MSD wires?
I pay-paled you last week for a couple of boxes of taylors.
Have they shipped yet?

MSD 31849 - SyTy Wire Set - $69.99 set

The Taylors shipped that same day. Lemme do some tracking.

Re: Taylor wires VS. MSD wires

I recalling this from a long time ago, but didn't the MSD's not hold up to heat as well as Taylors? We don't have the underhood cooling of most vehicles.

Anyone ever tried magnacores? Supposedly, all aftermarket wires are mfg'd by one or two companies that make them to spec and they are privately labeled.

Good info! Can you check the ohms per foot of the MSD wires?
