Compliments of Mike Campbell:

The Electronic Spark Timing "tan wire with a black stripe" that everyone can't find when attempting to set their timing. Wire is under the carpet on the passenger side below the heater box. It is disconnected to set the timing, then reconnected.

Re: Slow typhoon

That is where it was set by using gm manuals.are there any local okla.city guys to help with tuning.the last time truck ran at the track it ran around 14.20 at about 93mph(te-45,50lb inj, dequik front mount).this may be normal-just seems a little slow.any advise?

Get yourself a scan tool because that is slower than a stock Ty. Don't go WOT until you figure what wrong and blow up your motor.

Re: Slow typhoon

Thats just it,this is wot.sorry i may have left out a few things.the truck has te-45,stock dp,3" cat back,it is supposed to have vortecs but the plugs arent vortecs, brian green uni chip.under boost (17psi) at wot,o2 volts are in the 920's to 940's with 0 degrees kr with 93 octane.i have been using my shops tech2 to
monitor this.oh,there is a 160 thermostat in the truck.i am hoping this is just a tuning issue, but the truck has run like this since we've owned it-about 5 years.
Can anyone make heads or tails out of this?i appreciate the help and advise.thanks!!!

x 2 on the Scan tool - Datamaster is what you need along with the correct leads. You should be way faster than that if you have vortecs and it is tuned right.

if it makes you feel better my ty ran a 14.2 and i had a pitbull chip, 3" catback and cat delete. but i was at 10lbs of boost and no front shaft and a broke intercooler pump. but i did trap 96 mph.

Re: Slow typhoon

if you get Datamaster, you can do a run (not WOT!) and post the file here or get some of the better tuners to look at it. That would give you an indication.

Are there any other symptoms? High fuel consumption? Erratic idle?

Re: Slow typhoon

Good morning all.when i get on the highway the truck builds boost( now set at 17 psi ).i use my shops tech2 (the gm scanner) and record the run while in boost-wot.it feels like the truck stops pulling hard around full boost.but
o2 volts dont drop off, zero kr,and egts dont pass 1350 degrees(my egt probe is post turbo).fuel pressure is set at 50 psi stattic.scanner says i am getting 100% throttle.the idle is a slightly noticeable-not rough as in misfires.fuel
mileage is around 9-10 mph in town and about 14 on the highway.the fuel mileage has been like this since ive owned it.i assumed it was from the 50 lb
injectors.thanks.

Re: Slow typhoon

tune is off - sounds like you are running a tad rich - might cause your consumption figures and prevent the knock etc but you aren't making any power? Just a hunch.

Re: Slow typhoon

I have got a brian green ultimate chip.the truck came with this chip and another oneto go in the bus.both are marked for 50's.the one that is not in use has a stumble off idle during warmup,so i dont use it.both chips have only 2 programms that keep looping over and over.i dont notice much difference in the way either program runs on either chip.i have switched them out before but it still runs like a pig!!!!
