napa, the bulb comes out of the green holder.

my guess is, youve never seen one of these bulbs in real life before

they do not come out of the holder, infact the larger ones have "replace entire asm" written on them, and those would be even easier to replace the bulbs in

Re: Want green dash cluster light

the bulbs do come out of the holder and when i took out the cluster the 2 bulbs circled were gone so i took the rest of the dash apart and found nothing so i have these 2 empty holes. when i went to the dealership the guy ordered 2 of the green bulb assemblys when i got them tonight they were the larger ones not the ones i need and he looked some more and could not find ANY that were this small

so i am stumped on this one

heh, I just sent you a PM.

I dunno about you guys clusters, but the one in my truck and the Sunbird cluster I have sitting next to me both have all the bulb wires tacked to the tabs of the sockets, almost like spot welding. The bulbs cannot be pulled out nor easily replaced.

Sounds like the dealership ordered sockets for an S10 or Blazer, they are larger, but smaller than the 194/168 style sockets used for the speedo and such.

The SyTySGT clusters have even smaller sockets, and other than the Sunbird that we got the dash from, I havent found any other dashes that use the same sockets.

If GM can get them, have him try to get them for Pontiac Sunbird, around 1990-ish.

Infact, give them this VIN 1G2JB34K3L7602211

This Car on eBay has the same non-turbo cluster as our trucks

ok I'll head back to the dealership and see what he can do with the sunbird vin but the larger one he got for me looked like it could replace the bigger grey one easily except they were about $14 a peice. I tried the spot weld thing on a grey one and replaced it with a regular pc194 bulb and it lit up and worked fine

also on the one i replaced i broke off the solder spot with a tiny screw driver

Im working on making a replacement set for SyTy owners at the moment actually.

Finding the green holders has been an issue in the past, but I havent tried in quite some time but maybe ill take this project off the back burner now.

is this what the leds would look like? i think the lighting in this cluster looks awesome but can't get ahold of the owner, i just found the pic

Re: Want green dash cluster light

most likely no, thats probably an overlay, the bulbs are too spread out to get that type of even coverage. In stock form the main body of the cluster is only illuminated by 6 bulbs, theres a 7th hole in the middle but GM never put a bulb in there, why Im not sure.

I just ordered up enough parts to make a couple LED conversions, not sure when they will get here but I might have enough stuff laying around to mock something up for picture sake.

Either way, that photo is VERY badass.

EDIT:

judging by the logo in that pic, and the design, Im gonna step up my guess and say for almost certain that its a Speedhut overlay

i think you are right, i found the pic on his website but it's all written in japanese. but i did see the word speedhut so you must be right. that pic is way to awesome though, with the lighting and colors it really reminds me of a corvette cluster i saw the other day.

Re: Want green dash cluster light

just stopped at my NAPA, they had PC74's there, I picked one up for $2.13, once I get home Ill see how it fits.

The square part on the base looks a little different, similar to the S10 style sockets, but hopefully they will be the correct ones. I still like the OEM sockets better though, easier to convert to LEDs IMO.
