Brake smell
What would cause brake smell, right rear wheel, after 13 miles of normal driving and no hard braking??
Could my emergency brake be stuck? (I did release it, but perhaps its not full disengaged?)

Re: Brake smell
Possibly. Lift it, and try to spin the wheel (no parking brake, in neutral). Should feel and hear if something is dragging. Sounds like it is though.

Re: Brake smell
A bad wheel cylinder could engage the shoes under non-braking situations. The wheel cylinder has to retract just like a caliper piston. If not, it'll engage the shoes.

Re: Brake smell
Like an 18-wheeler braking downhill. But then, I'm not sure what the fluid smells like. I'll get under it sometime this weekend.
I did set the emergency brake last week which I rarely do, which is why I thought it might be binding now.

Re: Brake smell
Like Austin said, jack up the rear wheel and see if it spins, E-brake cable could be frozen and wont release. If it does then pull the wheel for further inspection.

Re: Brake smell
i say stuck cable , 23 year old truck. if you dont use it everyday i wouldnt even think of touching the parking brake for this reason. grab the cable by the wheel and twist it around alittle, that can usually free it up.
