Alt. Bracket Question

I am trying to get my headers on so I can proceed with my build up. I have been fighting with the typhoon during this process and it is winning. I have been stuck on the drivers side manifold forever, and have many car part casualties to show for it. Most recently I did this with a two jaw puller on the power steering pump pulley:

I am now at this point and need some help.

I got the powersteering pulley off in one extremely bent piece, and removed all the bolts on the alternator bracket, except this one behind the powersteering pump reservoir. How the hell do you get to this?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated... I am an idiot.

Re: Alt. Bracket Question

remove the three bolts from the front of the pump and let it fall down enough to get a socket on it. thats what i do.

It would be wise next time to rent, buy, etc the correct puller for that pulley so you dont murder any more

I will try that. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I tried the two jaw, the three jaw, and eventually figured out there was a specific puller for that puller rented and got it done in about 2 minutes. The whole process has gone about this smooth. So, at this rate I figure I should have her up and running again by about mid december!

Thanks again,
Evans

Re: Alt. Bracket Question

once you take the pulley off there should be four bolts holding the pump to the bracket, once you remove those you can remove the pump from the bracket. it can be done with the lines attached but is easier with them removed

Re: Alt. Bracket Question

The first one is the one I use. The info they posted with it is WRONG. It will remove the pulley.

Re: Alt. Bracket Question

get a pullley puller. put it in the groove you see in this pic

put onother wrech on the arms of the puller puller, so it doesn't slide off.
it might be worth getting a special tool. but i bet a puller puller is way more of an universal tool for later.

Re: Alt. Bracket Question

For the $20 bucks and the right tool vs. $0 and trying to make something else work I vote Andrew Jackson and 2 extra hours to work on the truck. :2cents:

I'm about to get that pulley of to. In the Haynes book the tool has a letter -B after the tool spec just for the Typhoon section. Is it a "special" tool just for SyTy's ?

Would any one of these do the job?

This one says just install?

I used a set like the second one to install and remove.

Here is the set I usedl:

Here is the part I used to pull the pulley off the pump snout:

Here is the part I used to push it back on (which is a much bigger PITA):
