Alternator recommendation

Hey guys,

I believe my Syclones alternator took a dump.

What alternator do you guys like or recommend?

The amp output is what stock?, I did not look into one yet.

Just get a stocker?

I run a powermaster 200 amp. No more volt gauge dance when the turn signals are on..

I have a CS-144 140 amp alt... I can't remember weather or not it fit the stock alt bracket before I hacked it up to delete the idler/ac etc but it's been great for me and dimming of any lights anymore even when my volvo efan kicks on.

I got a power master myself, 140a i think. No problems so far. One thing I heard people having a problem with was not useing the back brace because they didnt want to re-clock the back housing, and it caused the bearing to wear out too soon.

Oh yes! I am allover that one, best thing I ever did for my electrical system. The thing I really liked about this conversion was that it was super easy, way cheaper than a power master and if it breaks they are readily available at any auto parts store.

Is the CS-144 140 a direct bolt-on? Plug & play?

Any adaptor needed?

Yes and no. I had to make the stationary hole bigger but that was the worst of it. I also had to make the ring terminal one size up. No adapter though. What is nice is that this thing is a factory 140amp alternator. I have the stereo electronics and everything and where the stock 105 suffered this thing just shines.

Yup it's a solid piece that is factory on suburbans and such.

ah yes now i remember the install on stock bracket... I believe all I had to do was make the whole in the alt bracket a little larger and I eventually ran a ground from the alt case to the frame which netted me a whole volt more

Autozone it was about $120 if I remember right.

I eventually ran a ground from the alt case to the frame which netted me a whole volt more

Another question, do I need to use a different length serpentine belt, or stock belt works?

Ok, so when I go to Autozone or Pep Boys or? What vehicle do I tell them I need a alternator for that comes with a CS-144?

They always ask you what vehicle its for & year & etc.

I used 98 Chevy suburban 5.7L Vin R

Got a 140 amp cs-144

i got 2 alternators in my 96 impla ss and 1 in my typhoon from excessive amperage.com the best thing i ever did 300amp each

We have several guys here that have gone to bigger alternators and have yet to hear of anyone lack success. FYI, the belt drive system on a 5.7, 7.4 is the same shit as ours (for the most part). It all spins the same. My 105 couldn't hold up to my voltage demands and the CS144 has been flawless so far.
