Uh, not actually. (Not that its relevant, but Merrill dates back a bit earlier):
I have email dating back from Jun 2, 1993 referencing the following members.
Merrill, Eric, James, Ken, Mike Peter, Todd and myself.
Despite the fact that I was not on the mailing list until around 1996, SyTy life existed far before your June 1993 timeline. My 12.66 pass was made easily a year before your date. I taught Lawrence and Janice Conley the art of the 17# launch after helping them swap trannys between rounds at Moroso when their Regal wasn't even tubbed, and they were running (and blowing up on every pass) their 200-4R's through all 4 gears with a 4.30 ring & pinion ratio! (I also showed 'em how to yank the fragmented remains of a busted propshaft out in record time, while laying on my back in the parking lot without proper tools.) No commercially available custom chips...no problem...I used a rising rate of gain fuel pressure regulator with a tweaked 40# ATR PitBull that Phil burned for me over the phone...it went 12.06 @ 112.8 with a Garrett T04 and a homemade adapter to fit it to the stock manifold (and a cam that nobody thought could be made to work with the stock computer). If us first OGs had waited around for readily available internet service, it would have set us back several years ;)

Re: Any old timers out there?

....Cool, I stand corrected. Its interesting to learn about the early SyTy activities. Thanks Again.

One of my favorite stories involves Jim Stokes and his involvement at that time,
as well hearing about the factory exec`s who were given/driven Sy`s for evaluation.
Lots of info about what was known, engine internal reliability, quality control, modifications
and such. I was able to witness a GMC/Emich (Denver, CO) dealership early training session
to get mechanics "up-to-speed" on turbos. They were kind enough to xerox their
10 point checklist (which checked for warrantee tampering). I later published this to
the email list so that guys wouldn`t get "blindsided". The email list was a way to
communicate info (and connect individuals). Didnt mean to suggest it was the 1st attempt
at modifying these vehicles. Merrill was instrumental in putting this together and maintaining it.
I merely contributed bad/dumb humor.

Someday I hope a Marty, Merk, Adam or ?? writes some of this down (for publication).
I never asked Les "how he came to know/purchase his Stokes Sy" but he may a
interesting details as well. Typhoon B, Typhoon C, and Black Ice are among my favorite
vehicles (as well as Dean`s RWD Ty and of course the QuadraDeuce and PPY Sy).
Back then, guy`s would fly out to "just take pictures" of some of these happenings.

Lawrence/Janice Conley`s "Tweaked" cars were definitely unique (did they have a Sy?)
I still have an early Kenne Bell catalog (with that awful hood)....grin

thanks again,
Larry

The Conley's had a Sy nicknamed "Black". Just going off of memory, I believe they got it into the 11.80s (that was a HUGE feat back then). Lawrence and Janice were super nice people...when we met them at Moroso, they really didn't have a formal "crew", so Lawrence himself was under "Tweaked" swapping trannys between rounds. We just pitched in doing a little grunt work to help him out (fetching tools & parts, cleaning stuff up, etc.) and, in exchange, got to shoot the breeze with them. To us local nobodys, we thought we were in the presence of gods...but, they were very nice & down to earth people.

Re: Any old timers out there?

My kids say I'm old, and I lurked on the old list for a while before Brian F. and Cliff P. helped me find a Typhoon worth buying, picked it up in October 98, and then ran 13.8 first day at the track, and even spanked a Mustang 5.0 on my first run. Beat him by a full second, and that was running a 14.3. This was back when Pomona still had street legal drags.

Was there when Sean M's Typhoon was actually running, and saw him bust into the 12's, and then squeezed it too much a broke it.

Wow, this is an active group! Other forums I have used generally don't get a response to a post for several days.

It is great to hear from you all. I have got to do some browsing and see what has been going on in the Sy/Ty world. One of the reasons I came looking for this site again is I have an on-going feud with a guy who has a Dodge SRT-10 pickup over who has the quickest truck. I don't race my Sy, but I may have to just to shut this guy up. He has more HP, but I have AWD and my profile is a brick, while his is a brick sh*thouse. I gotta think the Sy is still the quickest truck.

Thanks for the responses!

Merrill

Stock for Stock, the Syclone will win up to 60mph - No contest IMO. Anything past that depends on the driver of the Dodge. Assuming he can drive the SRT, it IS capable of at least low 13's stock, but it ain't easy to get that number.

I bought my Sy new and just sold it this past July. :(

A Stock Sy won't hang with a Stock SRT Ram past 60mph.
