Hey all,

Anybody know of a good SYTY mechanic that I can bring my truck into that would know what they are doing? I really need to know ASAP so I can have the truck brought there to see how bad the damage is after a blown head gasket.

Any thoughts as I need to take it there soon...

well, all of the people mentioned here are at least 1000 km away and since the truck is not driveable, it is not a very feasible option. Does anybody know of anyone that could look at it inthe whole lower mainland? Anyone? Anybody at all? Bueller ?

I don't know how to say this without being very blunt, if you do enough searches on syty.net you will quickly learn that sending it to the right people the first time will save you big dollars in the long run.

What i mean is send it to Tony or Cambell Automotive, if you get it done locally you will more than likely be very dissapointed in time and end up selling the truck for a big loss broken again or not running right, it happens time and time again with these trucks.

FWIW.......Nolan, Tony and Mark have built many Syclone's and Typhoon's for customers and themselves, and each of the have owned many of these trucks........

The cost of shipping to Edmonton would be money very well spent, as opposed to learning the hard way...........I really don't mean to scare you, but do some searching on here and you will enlighten yourself.

:D Keep smiling it's not the end of the world, just fix it and enjoy the hell out of it! I do everytime I look in my garage or when I smack around some very expensive cars on the street.

Later,

I am not totally writing off the idea of having it shipped out to Edmonton to get it rebuilt, but I just want somebody to bring it to, just to see what the damage is. If it needs a complete redo, then I will decide then. I just want to bring it somewhere to have a look at it first though.

If I still lived in Seattle area I would help you out. Not sure if there is anybody down there that might help you (read a TRUSTED mechanic).

syty's are a strange bird, and getting the right guy on the job can make or break it.

We as a group are very picky due to past experiences.

Isn't Richard Chan still in that area?

I would agree with the other guys, though- if you take it to Edmonton, it'll get done right.

The same issue happens in the states... the only really qualified guys are separated by long distances.

I think you guys have helped add a new page to SyTy.org. I think I'll add a list of known SyTy Specialists and what region they are located in. It should really help the newcomers/owners.

Re: Anybody know of SY/TY mechanic Vancouver BC

I guess that I could just send the engine, that may be a bit cheaper... However, I am looking at that possibility once I know what the damage actually is. I guess I can do a bit of wrenching myself, I don't have a problem with that. I just mainly want somebody out here just to do a damage assessment to start and then I will go from there. It is actually easier for me to bring it to seattle or even portland than it would be to get it to edmonton. It is a lot closer. Seattle is ~3hrs and if I wanted to, I could go down for the day to check on progress. What about Seattle? Anybody around that area?

I am not quite sure how customs will be with that regard, but it is a heck of a lot closer.

OK, let's look at it from another angle, how similar is the internals and the basic overall workings between these and a Grand National? I may look at posting on the GN website and forums to see if there are anybody capable to properly diagnose (for starters) and then once I know the extent, I will decide what to do from that point.

So, How about Seattle, and the possibilities of a GN mechanic? Thoughts?

Thanks guys, I really do appreciate the help here, as I am in a bit of a pickle.

Cheers with fingers crossed,
Chris

Re: Anybody know of SY/TY mechanic Vancouver BC

you might check out NWSTP.com. I know of a few locals just not sure if any of them want to work on cars. My dad does on occasion, he isn't a syty guy but I did learn my car skills from him. Guess I can ask him if he is interested or not. He is in Tacoma area.

Roland Black in Seattle might have a few leads also. He actually lives in Issaquah.

Well, in this thread:

http://www.syty.net/forums/showpost.php?p=611560&postcount=16

You mention rod bits sticking out of the pan.

From that alone, I can pretty much guarantee you a destroyed crank, at least one rod, probably more, and judging from the "milky" comment, it got into the heads.

This essentially means you will be doing a near complete rebuild, even if you can salvage the block/heads, which you won't know for sure until you get the motor out and the heads off it.

You're going to need to have someone rebuild it... Send the Campbell guys your intake, and exhaust manifolds, and have them build you a long block. You'll still need to find someone local to pull the motor if you're not into that yourself.

I really doubt that you'll find much salvageable from the motor, judging from your description of the damage.

Sorry to be the bad news guy, but there's no cheap way out of rods sticking through the oil pan.

Chris,

Give me a call. We are in the process of tearing down a GN, and could possibly fit yours in although I'll need to verify.

We are in Seattle, so let me know ASAP what you'd like to do so we can coordinate something.

When you do rebuild or replace the engine I would check to see if the tune in your ultimate chip will still run properly.

Hey Chris; Give the boys at Carline brake and muffler a call. They are based in Richmond. they worked on tons of GNs and make some killer custom cars. I know they worked on a few syclones and Tyhoons too. PM me and I'll let you know the number and people you want to talk to there.
