Need help on which wideband

Intersting about the LC1. I have one Im using with the XD16 and so far seems ok. Now Im kind of nervous about it. The PLX seems kinda cheap (price wise). Is this one of those you get what you pay for things? Thats really why I bought the LC-1, thought it would be better to get something that was costly hopefully making it reliable. I see the WB and the gauge can come together for $195. Seems like a good price.

just another BASH on the lc-1.

for the most part, my third lc-1 works pretty well (as far as giving an accurate reading) but, there's another issue that is and will be critical for me and possibly others.

it occasionally stops working which is no big deal if your running in Open Loop but, if you happen to be in Closed Loop..it becomes a VERY BIG deal.

there is NO WAY i would recommend this WB for anyone who plans on running the code59 in Close Loop..unless...you have some way of switching to an Open Loop .bin "on the fly".

This isn't as large of an issue. i was using closed loop wideband on Mike Hardmans Ty for awhile, and he had a semi-flakey connection at times. When the PCM would lose connection with the wideband it would just run the intergrator back to 128, and not adjust it anymore.

the small PLX SM-AFR looks good. Maybe Scott should put together a GP on these...

I'd be happy to put something together for you guys. I'd suggest that the group purchase consist of a SM-AFR and an iMFD display gauge. If anyone is interested in the SM-EGT, we can add in that as an option. The iMFD retails for $250 but depending on quantity we can get the price down. Here is a brochure that shows how the modules can be daisy-chained together and displayed on the iMFD.

Re: Need help on which wideband

Well my LC1 that I posted about on the first page of this thread seems to have stopped working for some reason, it's been on the truck since about August of 06. Hopefully it's a wiring isssue and it's not dead, although reading this thread doesn't make me very optomistic.

Well I went with plx-300 looks good... Now can I replace the NBo2 with the new wideband or am I going to have to weld a new bung in the DP??? I searched and all I found were things for LC1/LM1...

FWIW... I called Detroit Turbo yesterday about the position of the PLX, cuz the instructions say it must be 24" from the turbo (I'll be installing mine when I get back from this trip). The gentleman I spoke with told me not to worry about mounting it in the stock O2 sensor location in mildly-modified vehicles. He said if you're running a big turbo, big injectors, etc. then it should be mounted farther downstream, but for mildly modified vehicles just put it in place of the stock sensor.

I had issues with the lc-1 xd-16 also. I moved the o2 down by the tranny and problem solved. The o2 with their kit is only good for 900 degrees. I guess mine was getting too hot in the stock location.

back from the dead.....

Well, I think my LC-1 is giving weird readings, when I decel, usually it would go right off the charts lean (as its supposed to) but lately, it would go off the gauge for 1-2 secs then while still decel it would go to 11-12afr while the engine is running at 1100rpm... I have a feeling this thing is going out... I alway calibrate this thing.. at least once every 2 weeks just to keep it accurate but now I don't know. What is the latest news regarding WB? Is the PLX units that much better that I may just buy it and remove this!?!?!?!

It's hard to say... are you entirely sure the truck isn't really doing that?

Also, first thing to check with odd WB readings is power and ground. Especially ground. Loose connections cause all sorts of problems.

The only real way to know for sure is to compare against a known good wideband. I've got 3 of 'em for that very reason.

The LC-1 has given a lot of people trouble. I haven't heard any confirmable cases of bad PLX units.
