Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

They are both on my bucket list:

- Pro Touring built 68-69 GTO
- Pro Touring Built 70-73 Firebird Formula
- 86-87 Grand National
- Fox Body Saleen
- 89 Turbo Trans Am
- 04-06 GTO
- 04-05 CTS-V
- C5 Z06

I'll get to them eventually... Probably a GTO when I go to college in 2 years for something more reliable.

What do you think of that stock copper color they came in? I saw one last summer and the guy said the copper color was limited or special edition for those cars

It will be nice to have another Ty over here, mine came from Japan. Don't forget to factor in that 97/98 gas runs at just short of $9/US gallon or just short of $11/Imp gallon over here if I worked it out right.

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

Re UK MOT. If the Ty is running well, it 'should' pass emissions, although I really struggled last time. I ended up pulling the ESC wire, but that will depend on whether you have a sympathetic tester or not. Also, they don't have SyTy's on the data base, so you will have to convince them it is 'the same as a Blazer'. Being as you are near a US airbase, I'm sure there are friendly places to go to. As mine is not on the road at the minute, I haven't had the pleasure of another test since then.
Regarding lights, you will have to fit a red rear fog lamp to the passenger side rear (or a pair). The switch for this must have a warning indicator to show it is on! Then either swap out the reversing light bulbs for amber to use them as rear turn signals and add a separate rear reversing light (to match your fog). The next hurdle is the front 'side light' or parking lights that must be white, not amber. There are various ways to achieve this. The easiest is to buy new headlamps with built in sidelamp bulbs. You may have to buy new head lamps anyway as UK headlamps have to 'dip' to the left. US spec headlamps if you have them normally just dip downwards. Then finally, the turn signals need to be visible when looking forward, standing in line with the rear of the vehicle 1m out. Some use those new led's in the door mirror, others drill and add them to the front fenders or as I have done, find a suitable doner lens from a breakers yard and silicone the lens directly over the front side marker bulb. This shines through it and is visible from the rear. You could then remove them after each test if you wanted to. This will apply to your firebird too, although you have the amber rear turn signals on that, so would just need the fog at the rear. Hope it helps and doesn't put you off. Its not that difficult, just a bit of messing around with the wiring and most of it reversible, providing you don't drill the front fenders.

It's cheaper on base - but maybe a long range tank would help :D

As of now, the Ty is failing smog. If I can't get it to pass in 2 or 3 days, I can't get the title in time, therefore, I can't the car shipped to England. I am pretty upset the smog wasn't done sooner by my buddies since I had a feeling it was going to be an issue.

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

If its just a sniff test, can you get it tested with the ESC wire pulled under the pass side dash? Makes it run and sound a bit rough, but will drop your emissions. Do you have any air leaks in the exhaust/manifolds before the O2 sensor? These tend to suck air in and cause the O2 sensor to read lean which causes the ECM to over fuel when trimming in closed loop. Go over your plugs, leads and dissy cap/rotor. It only takes a very small misfire which you cant usually feel to put emissions up. Lazy O2 sensor? The other obvious things are to make sure you have fresh oil in the engine and its not too 'thin' a grade. Its amazing how much dirty oil can affect emissions on an older engine. Then when you get it here, run some 'cataclean' through it, it 'seems' to work for some.

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

I got to meet Aaron at the weekend and took some photos and some videos..

His truck runs reall well!

Aaron was kind enough to pick me up from the train station and we hung out and drank beer, played beer pong, ping pong, grilled out, challenged an entire bar to arm wrestling and savoured the delights of proper British bacon.

Took some pics...

Arrived in the UK:

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

Not much you can do with it... Probably repaint it next summer. I think I'm deploying this winter so I'll have some money to play with. I might sand it and do clear rattle can as a temp as it helps a smidge. Did it with my firebird... But as I said, it's a temp thing.
