Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!
Re UK MOT. If the Ty is running well, it 'should' pass emissions, although I really struggled last time. I ended up pulling the ESC wire, but that will depend on whether you have a sympathetic tester or not. Also, they don't have SyTy's on the data base, so you will have to convince them it is 'the same as a Blazer'. Being as you are near a US airbase, I'm sure there are friendly places to go to. As mine is not on the road at the minute, I haven't had the pleasure of another test since then.
Regarding lights, you will have to fit a red rear fog lamp to the passenger side rear (or a pair). The switch for this must have a warning indicator to show it is on! Then either swap out the reversing light bulbs for amber to use them as rear turn signals and add a separate rear reversing light (to match your fog). The next hurdle is the front 'side light' or parking lights that must be white, not amber. There are various ways to achieve this. The easiest is to buy new headlamps with built in sidelamp bulbs. You may have to buy new head lamps anyway as UK headlamps have to 'dip' to the left. US spec headlamps if you have them normally just dip downwards. Then finally, the turn signals need to be visible when looking forward, standing in line with the rear of the vehicle 1m out. Some use those new led's in the door mirror, others drill and add them to the front fenders or as I have done, find a suitable doner lens from a breakers yard and silicone the lens directly over the front side marker bulb. This shines through it and is visible from the rear. You could then remove them after each test if you wanted to. This will apply to your firebird too, although you have the amber rear turn signals on that, so would just need the fog at the rear. Hope it helps and doesn't put you off. Its not that difficult, just a bit of messing around with the wiring and most of it reversible, providing you don't drill the front fenders.
