Oxygen Sensor

So ive come to a conclusion that a O2 sensor that has never been replaced just doesnt want to let go of the downpipe and come out.

Monday I went out and started spraying the O2 sensor with PB Blaster (this stuff rocks) about every 25-30 minutes and tapping on it and what not trying to help it penetrate.

I did this for about 4 hours and was thinking that this would be enough to break the O2 sensor free so I could replace it.

So I grabbed my O2 sensor socket and extensions and what not and got it all hooked up and put a hose clamp around the end so that it couldn't spread.

Well even after letting the PB Blaster to soak in it still wouldn't break free so I basically took the defeat so that it wouldn't round it off.

I dont have access to a torch to heat it up which ive heard is a very good way to break them loose. I already have the new O2 and the shop that I would take it to would only charge me for the labor to do it but any input from you guys would be very helpful.

Re: Oxygen Sensor

I just did mine last week and it wasn't easy. I did the pb blaster, 4 hours, and the torch ansd still couldn't get it. I ended up cutting the top off the sensor so I could get a 6 point socket with 1/2 drive on it. I tried to use an o2 socket but like you said it wanted to round it off. Good luck

Re: Oxygen Sensor

take the truck on a drive get into boost and get it hot, then go home immidatiley. i just did mine yesterday. the heat expands the metal in the pipe, and lets the sensor loose.

hope this helps.

Re: Oxygen Sensor

I just did mine at the Nats, It wouldn't come out without heat and we couldn't find a torch, so as soon as we got back from the track on Friday night I popped the hood and it came out fairly easy.

I screwed up the threads on mine, couldn't find a tap, so I rewelded a new bung on after grinding the bad one down. You may want to take it to a shop so they can mess things up.

What sensors everyone runnign im replaceing mine in the day or so?

FWIW, I like the Denso's... They have a metal cage/screen around the sensor tip that is supposed to help protect(?) it or rather keep it from accumulating deposits. Google Denso O2's & read up on them for more info. Might be just sales rhetoric, but it seemed to make sense when I was researching them.

Re: Oxygen Sensor

Get a Denso or Bosch locally, as they come with lifetime warranties. Worth it when diagnosing a future problem, and you can just swap the O2 for a new one for free.

Re: Oxygen Sensor

I herd that our trucks will run like crack with an O2 sensor from autozone or advanced. And or one thats not an AC Delco. I also heard that those dealars accept the ones that the dealerships dont cause they didnt come within the manufactures standerds. I guess this isnt true????

Autozone and Advanced both sell Bosch sensors. I bet they're the same ones you can get wherever else.
