Re: restoration frame off?
how much do you think it would cost ruffly without paint i can do all the labor myself i wanna know what im getting into
OK, please forgive me. You called me out by name, and I'm pretty well-know here for saying it like it is, so here goes..... I'm going to seem like a hard ass, but I've seen this so many times before on here, what is going to happen is very predictable. You're going to take this thing all apart, spend a lot of money, it will never run under your ownership, and will be sold in boxes about a year from now.
First off you have no idea what you're getting into. I can see that by your "where do these wiring connectors go" thread. And now there are a few additional threads with questions that only a beginner, and n00b to SyTy ask. Sure, you can provide "all the labor myself", but
only if you know what is required, and how to do it.
Here's what I would suggest.
- Do what it takes to get it running.
- Do what it takes to make it drivable.
- Do what it takes to make it smog-legal.
- Register it and insure it.
- Begin driving it. Enjoy it.
- As little things (heater core, power window motors, electrical gremlins, suspension issues, oil leaks, engine and transmission failures and rebuilds, t-case mysteries, ABS failures and the subsequent crash-repairs, etc, etc, etc) crop up from time to time (about every time you drive it, it seems) take care of them so as to keep it running and off the jack stands. Keep enjoying it.

- Purchase DataMaster software, and an ALDL cable and begin logging and learning how your engine functions and how the ECM and sensors control fueling, boost, timing. This could take the rest of your life to master, but it needs to be learned.
ONLY after the above steps,
in the order listed which could take years to complete, will you be ready to decide the direction to take with your Syclone. Sell it, build it, paint it, rhino coat the frame, etc.
Only until you've owned one long enough to learn what it takes to get one running, and drive it for awhile, and develop some diagnostic skills regarding driveability and tuning, will you be ready to evaluate whether you're ready to undertake "restorations for profit".
Hope this helps. I know it's "tough love", but that's the way it is with these trucks. Ask a few people that have experience with these. And those that didn't but tried to jump in the deep end without knowing how to swim, what happened to them....
Good luck.
