Yeah I saw them, I dont know, its weird. I was always under the impression solid mounts made the engine sit a little lower than normal. Again, you could have a weird set, I know I've gotten them before.

I made a mistake.

The engine was too far forward. The fan wouldn't install, there was too much space by the dist and the down pipe hit the shock tower.

I hoisted the engine with the crane and jacked up the trans with a scissor jack (that needs to go) and just shoved everything back 2". Went ok after that. The pads were the correct side

Installed the cross member, added the transfer case support strut and tightened up the mounts.

The fan went on and so did the belt and a few other small things.

I also stripped down the spindles, upper and lower A-arms for blasting and epoxy. New bushings have arrived as well so that is all that is holding me back from assembling the front end.

I should probably put the front bumper on as well... getting there.

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

Had my Easter break so did a bit of work on the car...

I planned to get the front end set up so had a bit of help from my Dad. Front a arms were epoxied and a whole lot of other things done. The main bit of work was in replacing the bushes with the Energy Suspension poly bushes. My Dad bought some tools for that and it was a pretty good end result...

Front diff got some TLC as well...

Blasted... then epoxied...

The upper a-arms have these three piece bushes that you have to reuse. They were a bit of a fiddle. A claw hammer does the trick to separate them. A lot of people advocate burning them out of the rubber but I actually used a 22mm hole saw to dispatch the rubber. The smell and the residue are awful otherwise .

I had to make up some shims so that the press didn't warp the arms.

The ES lower new bush cups...

The spindles got the blasting and epoxy treatment as well...

And it all looked rather good:

Unfortunately, I ordered the wrong new calipers.

So I am waiting on new ones.

I put the grille on and the hood and cowl as well as the bumper support and front wheels. It looks remarkably good again!

Wheels on as well so I could to the sway bar...

No work on the engine because I need a new battery and an oil gasket but I am proud of the difference. Worth another post. :)

A few jobs left to do but the light at the end of the tunnel is NOT a train :D.

Excellent job as usual, Mark.
I hope you have better luck with the Energy Suspension bushings than I did. I put entire set, front and rear, to eliminate a sqeak. Even used the high end graphite impregnated ones. Greased them all. They pretty much all squeaked shortly after. Finally replaced them back to factory rubber. No more squeak.

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

Thanks Chip, I hope I have good luck as well!

I had PST bushings on the TY and they squeaked a bit initially but then they somehow got lubed up and seem to be OK now. It was a decent amount of work though.

I really hope the ES bushings don't give me any grief but at least I know what to do to get them all in and out now.

My current quandary is what to do about injectors...

A) stick with stockers and do code59
B) stick with stockers and get TurboTweak
C) get 60s and get code59
D) get 60s and get a Turbotweak chip.

I'm trying to keep it as economical as possible but don't want to sacrifice power. I am leaning on stock injectors and a TT chip and just removing the w/g so I have 10lbs boost max and the injectors aren't maxed out.

The next owner can deal with upgrades perhaps :D

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

Mark,

I happen to have a TT chip for stock injectors with 3 bar map sensor that I no longer need. I was going to sell it for $200 shipping included, but I don't know what shipping would be to you.

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

Hi Randy,

This is a different compression motor to yours I imagine - it's a Vortec build and I kept the 9.35 compression so I don't think it would work - please tell me if I am mistaken.

I expect shipping for that small of an item wouldn't be more than $15 or so... The main thing is not declaring the value as being too high a value so I don't get hammered with taxes at this end.

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

Lots of progress!

Spent a day figuring out a few issues. Now I need to keep it running. It lasts about a minute then dies suddenly. I can't seem to fatten up F28 beyond .1174 for some reason.

Very pleased. I hope it's all together correctly.

Have had a lot of help from MDH and Bullydawg. Thanks guys!

Hoping to grease up the ball joints tomorrow and bleed the brakes. If I can figure the idle out correctly, might even drive it!

Unles someone else pays for your med school or you specialize in something that you can overcharge patients, rich doctors are becoming a rarity. With student loans and mal-practice insurance, it's friggin expensive to be "Dr." whomever.
Nice job as usual, Mark.

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

Checked a few things over...

200psi on all 6 - I hope it will be a fun motor. I had to redo the valves again. 1/4 turn dropped 30 psi per cylinder so I did 0 lash with Loctite. I will check compression again next time as I have an annoying miss at idle now.

Almost fully assembled...

Tightened up the wheel nuts:

I couldn't believe how cheap and fast this arrived. £8.20 inc postage. 24 hrs. Amazing!

My Dad helped me bleed the brakes. The two accumulators on the ABS wouldn't move though so I couldn't bleed it properly. It looks like an ABS delete is in the future.

I am also concerned I put the torsion bars in wrong. It sits very low now - perhaps an adjustment on the pork chops will help. It does look very good though!

So, it was all assembled less AC and some turbo - IC clamps.

My parents came to help me out. We have a unit about 30 min from their house which is where I have been every day the last few weeks.

We grilled out.

I got the truck off stands and took it for a drive. It has a miss and the wheels need the camber adjusting but the trans seems strong and it didn't die when I changed gears!

Time to celebrate!

I won't get to work on it again for a while now :(

Hopefully these guys can enjoy it while I am away...

My Dad will put it up on stands again but for now, it rests.

As usual, lots of little snags but in the end, I did it. This is the first engine I ever built so I hope I did a good enough job!

Hope you enjoyed reading!

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

200 psi on the compression check seems a tad high. Forgive me for not reading the whole thread, but what is your compression ratio?

Re: Saudi Syclone - 2612

It should be about 9.35 or so. I kept the original compression ratio from the vortec motor. With hindsight, I should have aimed for the standard 8.3 due to BIN availability.
