Seating the Computer Under the Dash

I just replaced a leaky heater core. Everything is back together now, but the reinstallation of the computer. I see how it's supposed to sit up in there, but I'm having trouble getting it up there without exerting what I think is too much effort. I definitely don't want to pinch any wires or damage anything in any way. Besides patience, are there any tricks that might help me seat the computer properly?

move the ecm to the glovebox . just pull the wiring harnesses through the back side . may have to remove some of the plastic from the back side of the glovebox housing to give the harnesses enough room to be pulled through. leave the little whilte drac box connected to its harness and let it rest behind the glovebox. makes tuning and chip removal a breeze .

It has to be at the right angle to slide all the way in. Try tipping the top more towards the back or front as you push it up. When it's tilted the right way, it will go in without having to push on it too hard.

Thank you very much for the advice. I just got to the truck so I'll try these suggestions right now. I have seriously considered putting it in the glove box, but until I need more frequent access to it, I'll put it back where it goes. Hopefully.

I had this problem too. I unbolted the dash and installed the ECM then bolted it back up. Either way, stil a PITA.

This is a major pain in the ass. I would almost rather tote an ass beating than reinstall that computer. It has to go in just perfect. I've had mine in and out about five times, and I almost throw the thing in the woods every time. Just be very patient, it will go in there from underneath. Good luck.

Success! There is really more room in front of and behind the computer than there appears to be. What worked for me was to lay on the floor (the passenger seat has been out since the start of this project), holding the computer bracket with my right hand, and holding and guiding it up with my left hand in front of it (towards the firewall). As it goes up, gently push the top of the computer back towards the glovebox. My biggest concern was the wiring harness pressed up against the heater core cover and causing something to become loose because of it. Thank you again for the advice! Now... let's make sure it starts. :lol:
