selling or buying these rare trucks

plans are to buy in the next year or so.
as of december on ebay there are no less than 10 trucks for sale. the state of economics and time of year play a part. some guys think these trucks are rare and give long winded explanations. . must be some tough competition to sell during winter months.

less than 3K Sy's. Thats pretty rare. There were 20 thousand 87 Grand Nationals made not counting all the Turbo T's(87's) and T Types(86's). Less than 6K 86 GN's ;)

GN's are about to go up for the wrong reasons. The rumors are Vin Diesel will drive a GNX in the next F & F. A *nice* GN should bring 15K-17K pretty easy. Some of the lower mileage cars are well over 20K.

2995 Sys and 4500 Tys if memory serves... not exactly common vehicles, all things considered.

Of course, you could count the 807 GT's as well ;)

the 20 year mark will set the tone for values. buick regals in good shape are easy to come buy at 20 years.

hoping for a good selection of these novelty trucks when my time comes. 5K banked and counting.

Novelty trucks, not rare, 10,000 etc... Dude, did they just get the internet up der? The 20 year mark? WTF. Either you were drinking when you posted, 16 years old or you are not so bright.

easy bro, just generalizing. holding on to your ride thinking it will go somewhere in value.5 years ago prices where higher. l find it funny when guys sell the truck trying to make it sound they are hard to come by. with few numbers the aftermarket is the issue. buicks are well supported. manufacturers are obligated to stock parts up to a certain lifespan. after 20years ,is when values change. any ideas when first generation jimmy parts will not be carried by GM?

Buicks are supported by individuals within the buick community who stepped in to fill a need. Most of the specific turbo parts are long gone at the dealers.

Re: selling or buying these not rare trucks

I think the point is (in the here and now) that the market is soft for most but not all specialty vehicles. Yes prices were higher before but that changes with all things and like all things in the economy. As for SyTy's? RIGHT NOW its real soft and there are some good deals to be had if you look and aren't in a hurry but in general prices are low. Now if you are looking for a low mileage, 100% stock / original Sy or a Ty in a "rare" color then you will pay more for sure but it's all related to what you are looking for. Decent drivers, projects, heavy mods but with drivability issues etc. are very reasonable now if I dare say cheap, but again less than 4500? Ty's (for two years of production with some "rare' colors) and less than 3000 Sy's does qualify them as rare (for sure at the 20 yr. mark) and actual collector quality SyTy’s are already so due to the large number that have died (totaled) been heavily hacked and modded or just to the point that it's a driver or candidate for a race only that is not worthy of the time or cash to "restore" to original mint.

If I can ever document my (I think) special order Teal / Teal Ty with Marty, Merk and some others in the know, It could be the only one! Now what's that worth if documented? It's all relative to what you looking for at the time and the current market. I think prices have leveled and will stay constant (low) for a while then slowly start to climb, never to drop back again due to age, number of real clean stockers available and if it continues, the recent "boost" in public awareness from the GMHTP, video game, MSN clips etc. The more advertising we get the more our values will climb. I mean hell there were thousands and thousands of Challangers, Cudas, GTX's, SS's (all of them), Mustangs etc. Look where that's has gone!

other than color, what other options make for a typhoon above the rest.

They only had 2 options, roof rack and CD player. So basically its condition (color preference) is what determines its value. IMO they are pretty damn rare, I usually only can find few in my area FS per year. To me that isn't much slection and I would most likely have to travel to buy another SyTy.

I think the features make them more livable than the options. Reclining front seats, seating for 4, and full leather make them more habitable. Sys rule for all out cool factor and speed:tup:

Pretty sure the black cladding on a 92 was an option. B1Y?, Y1B?, B1A?, something like that. About 125.00. If you didn't order it, you got grey cladding.

DP

I think the Argent Gray cladding was an extra cost option. I never really think about colors as being options

I would say since most people who went to the dealer and just bought whatever was on the lot that is even more true.

Re: selling or buying these not rare trucks

If im hearing what i here about the traits between SYTY's and Buicks cant you put like 3000 into a buick and it could walk a syty anyday, and their alot easier to build up from what i here, i mean their turbo is pretty big for being stock, our buddy in town has one and he said his turbo is close to what would be a pte 52, and i dont know if there as high maintance as our trucks are, I mean if your really good at building like rockford racecraft, raceproven or other people on this sight, then maybe for 3000 you can make it a we bit faster by like a second or so, i mean look at that parts for these trucks their expensive from body, to rims, even to engine parts, shits not cheap lol just seeing what you guys think i might be wrong, but i might have soem strong points

It would be awful hard to get a Buick to walk a SyTy from a stoplight.

to sum it up the cladding and engine, drivetrain is the only difference from a jimmy. which will never be a collectable. although i still see a few around. anyone seen a typhoon sell at a barrett jackson auction.

wow... then go buy a jimmy if you just dont care that much and leave the trucks to the people who would enjoy owning one instead.

a large majority of owners didnt buy their trucks for the factor of becoming filthy rich off them....they bought them because of the performance and the enjoyment of owning a vehicle that can still make a corvette owner blush when he gets taken from a light.

are they a big item in the real collectors market? no...but there are plenty of big names in the entertaiment and car industry who do have them in their collection, and while that doesnt say much, it does say something about being a sought after vehicle.

Yes, SyTys have sold at BJ, just FYI.
