Re: Sy # 2047

Cool project! The front locker has me slightly concerned though, from what I've read it can make it a little hairy to drive. Good luck and keep the pics coming!

Re: Sy # 2047

i actually decided that since it will mostly just be a cruiser, to not use the locker front end. i had a spare stock one laying around so i had it rebuilt and put it in. the locker one is for sale if anyone is interested if they have a truck that will be more intended to race.

well hell i seem to have misplaced my sony memory card adaptor, so i cna't put up any pics right now.

anyways, recieved my syclone torsion bars, thanks to Jplamer fro donating them, and DaveP for shipping them, and swapped them out, the above pic was with 4dr blazer bars cranked all the way down with the adjuster bolt out, and it still had a 4.5 inch gap between the cladding and tire. so i got the sy bars in a got it nice and low now. looks good on those 18's. Haven't accomplished much more than that for right now.

Re: Sy # 2047

damn i really need to take some pics. haven't worked on it much the past week, been busy gettin my old v8 blazer road worthy again after 4 years, poor thing was just about lost to the weeds.

sent out my down pipes, cross overs and waste gate dump tube along with some customer headers to get jet hotted, and ****ing UPS ruined the DOUBLE wall box it was all in, (not to mention packed very well and quite tightly, and most of everything was severely damaged.

in fact i am starting another thread just to talk about this incident.

waiting to hear back with pics to see if anything is salvageable.

other than that got the B&M trans cooler with fan mounted under the box, look quite nice, had some custom hoes ends made for it, should get my hoses made by the end of the week.

SO close to being done it's ridiculous

Looking good mate :)
i sure will! lol
well a bit of progress made.

got my cat bracket a bit ago, FINALLY, and also got the mid pipe built, and RPM exhaust almost all together. gotta finish up the battery cables so i can put the down pipes in for good this time.

got my stuff back from jet hot, and wrapped the upper and partially the lower down pipes.
thinking about wrapping the crossovers to.

this was my stock sized battery in stock location, a bit close eh. gonna go for a smaller one. i didn't want to relocate it because it's not fun to do, and also according to local track specs in case i ever wanted to venture that far, any battery in non stock location HAS to have a kill switch which i also did not want to do.

this is some cool thermal cover stuff i found, i put it over the battery cables where they go near the exhaust, says it can take up to 2k degrees.

this is the truck during summer time right before it had to spend the week outside while the garage floor was being coated. nice n lowish. i may still bring the rear down a bit more.

still have a fair amount to do, but the parts list is dwindling down finally. mostly just labor stuff to finish now.

This thing is really in the way where it's at now, so i am just trying to get it together as quick as possible so that i can take it home and tear it all back apart to start the cleanup process. frame needs to be cleaned up bad, still has oil and grime all over it from when the engine blew up 2 owners ago. i will most likely take the engine apart and have it freshened up and clean up block heads and intakes, stuff that can't get cleaned very well without some disassembly

I'd be a little worried about how close the trans. cooler is to the muffler. Nice going, though. You didn't give up...Jim

I was just reading through this thread and I see in the begining photos the truck had coil-overs. Why did you put torsion bars back in? Seems like a backwards move... Everything looks awesome! Keep up the great work!

Re: Sy # 2047

needs wheel spacers in the rear :D

i know, i will get em when it's closer to being roadworthy.

Looking really good BAD Ian! keep up the good work.

thanks

i was also thinking that, it has about 5 inches of clearance, so it may be ok, and i am also thinking of building a heat shield for it or for over the muffler. limited space and this was as far as it could get away, side to side, from the exhaust because of the fuel tank, without moving somewhere else, and i just didn't want it any farther back.

i am defintely keeping it in mind though.

money became quite an issue shortly after purchase of the truck so i sold them and some other things to be able to afford to continue progress. suspension can always be done later, at this point still, i just want to get it running and driving. if i decide i don't like torsions i can always purchase another set later.

Re: Sy # 2047

not much new here, got poly mounts in today, in place of the stockers. wish i woulda done it in the beginning. luckily the truck was not fully assembled before i changed my mind.

Re: Sy # 2047

wow it's been a while since i've even been on here, had some stuff go on the past few months and have barely even been able to look at the truck til last saturday. i remember how much i hated doing those poly mounts because they did not fit right, i really had to modify them to work but it's all good now.

got my battery situation all figured out and am in the prcoess of finishing up the tray and mods to the inner fender to accomodate. thats about as far as i've gotten.

It's hard to see in the pics but i heated the inner fender and masaged a square into it downward because the battery is now going here and i needed better hood clearance.

DSC02139.jpg

here you can kinda see better whats going on

DSC02140.jpg

this is the tray i'm building, it's still in progress so i'll do some trimming to give it a bit more style but i'm certain it will work out well.

DSC02141.jpg

under shot of how it looks, still need to do some more heating to tap out the humps and bumps. also on the lower right side of the pic you can see i had to do some heat and tapping to flatten out the inner fender for more turbo clearance, since it was touching before.

DSC02142.jpg

and this is basically where the battery will be, gives me tons of room for i/c piping and turbo filter room that i was so worried about finding before.

DSC02143.jpg

more and better pics to come this weekend, along with alot more clean up work. soon i'll be able to tidy up the bit of wiring i have for the gauges wideband and trans cooler fan. i'm going to be adding another power block like the one the hood lamp connects to for power for the add ons but i'm unsure of where to mount it out of sight.
