Syclone #1900 - Project Resurrection...++

HELL YEA I GOT BOOST!
Ok....figured it was probably time to start a project page. For some background info....one of our fellow Sy/Ty members had started a thread about this Syclone that was on Craigslist. Now I had a Typhoon at the time that I had been putting together but had started to get the itch for making some real power. And then the itch got infected and decided to find something a little lighter to build. Which is why I decided to get the Syclone.

This was the Typhoon....that is truly missed. But I couldn't justify having both...especially since I have a really hard time leaving things alone. And there's no way I could afford to build both the way that I want them. In all reality....I can't afford to build one of them. I'm sure most of you can probably relate.

And this is what I had decided to build instead. And yes....there have been many times that I've had second thoughts about that decision.

I was fortunate enough to be sent out of the country to do some work. Made some decent money and had a chance to pick up some nice pieces for the Sy project. Now that I'm back and have the chance to put the truck together.....I just hope that I can end up getting it finished in a decent amount of time. As of right now....the goal is to try and get it into some sort of decent condition to bring it to Nats 09. My ultimate goal is to just turn the truck into a truly evil street truck that I can have a good time in. Sometimes I think I've gone way overboard in my plans......but I guess we'll just have to see how it turns out.

Ok....decided the bed was just too far gone in certain places for me to try and mess with. I don't mind doing body work....but the Sy bed was bad enough that I didn't think I wanted to play with it. So I pulled the bed off of another S10 that I had that I was planning on turning into a track truck to have a little fun with. Here are some of the pics of the bed removal and clean up. We also removed a lot of the stuff from under the truck that we weren't going to be re-using. So anyway....we went ahead and drilled the S10 for the cladding hangers and did a test fit on the cladding. I still need to pull the cladding off the doors and cab. Once I do that I figure that I'll get all the body work going.

Then here we cleaned it up a little....

Also took a trip to the shop to check out the motor again. It's basically all buttoned up except for the spacers to be made for the sheet metal intake. There was a mis-communication on the heads that I had so the intake is made for standard port -10's instead of the raised runner -10 that I have. So we're making spacers so that it can still be used. Not sure on how much that will effect performance....but I guess we'll find out. I'll be comparing the sheet metal and spacers to the Daytona Dash that Mike Lee converted to a fuel injection for me. The DD intake is port matched to the -10's already.

So I'm hoping that we'll be breaking it in on the dyno soon and go ahead and make a max power pull naturally aspirated (kind of curious).

Re: Syclone #1900 - Project Resurrection...++

Well...we got the motor broken in over the weekend. Picked up a big cap (non computer) HEI distributor and a set of 1.5" headers to break it in. We through a holley 650 on the EFI Daytona Dash intake and some trash wires. It was good to hear the motor after spending the last two years building it. We basically broke the motor in on the dyno on Friday night. Then for shits and giggles we made some pulls on it Saturday afternoon. Considering the header size and not really messing with jets or plugs or anything like that....I was kind of pleased the performance for the most part. It pulled a little over 350 tq and 400 hp. The little headers were really killing the motor. It was just kind of funny to see how much smaller the flange opening was than the exhaust runner in the -10 head. Anyway....should be picking it up in a couple of weeks and setting it in the truck to start fabbing all the lines and stuff like that. That will be an exciting time for me. The motor sounded really good on the dyno. Didn't sound anything like I thought it would. It actually sounded like a healthy V8. I video'd it....and will post it up as soon as I convert it from the format that it's in to mpeg or something more friendly. Right now it's in AVCHD or somethign like that. Anyway....all in all it was a pretty cool weekend for me.:tup:

Re: Syclone #1900 - Project Resurrection...++

Well....we've been doing a little mock up to get an idea of how things will be going. My motor still sitting up at the builders. They're still jacking with the spacers for the intake. So I grabbed another block that I had prepped for the Typhoon when I still had it and we through it in with the 4L80e. Through some heads on and dropped the intake on with the headers and turbo's. But just in doing that we've got a lot accomplished trying to figure out what's what. Here's a couple of the pics.

We also got all the billet crap and new parts thrown into the transfer case, cut down the output shaft on the 4L80e and got it all mounted in with RPM's moly crossmember (torsion bar delete). Will get pics of that the next time I'm out there.
