....a 5.3L LS in a Ty. That is a splendid idea. You might be entering into unchartered waters :haha:

Do they even have LS engines in Hawaii? Shipping is going to be a bitch!

Re: v8 swap anyone?

I was about to overhaul my 4.3, i talked with my guy @Profab in Tampa,. This what he suggested; I am looking to make about 500 hp. Buy using a 5.3 I can get about 600 hp or so. The onlu issue I am concerned with is the front drive components. I am tossing the idea around, nothing in stone yet. More research is required before making. A decision. I can get a gd used engine for about a grand. I have seen a dual turbo set up in a blazer. I will keep al, interested parties updated

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Matt. Whats the cost of building the 4.3 vs the 5.3? I am looking to drop a 5.3 or 6.0 (stock) w/ 6 or 7 lbs of boost. I will make more reliable hp on either setup vs the stock 4.3 nuild on 15lbs of boost. Plus I get to have ODB2 tuning features instesd of the old chip method. I am trying to locate a 4l80e trans or a t56 to stand behind the future engine. I am sure 400 hp isnt unreasonable with a stocker and 6lbs of boost.

But the T56 is going to be a project. It has been done, but to my knowledge it was not easy.

Re: v8 swap anyone?

Well, it's been a while since I posted on this topic.... Here is what I have done so far:
-purchased a 01 Tahoe w/73k on the odometer
-pulled the tranny/engine/harness and anything else I thought I needed
-completed a ton of research on the 5.3.... come to find out there is a large following for this main stream engine. It has become the common day 350 chevy.
-the recipe is simple, valve springs, right cam, head gasket and anywhere from 70 to 76mm

Since mine will be basically stock minus the cam and ring-end gap; I will run anywhere between 10 to 14lbs of boost and gain about 650 to the wheels.

Future purchases:
-engine internal kit
-75mm turbo
-oil pan/engine mounts

FYI- I have found two fab shops that has done this conversion (both on the main land) 1 with 408 twin turbo setup and the other, the guy who did the set up really isn't trying to share any data or pics...

None the less, I will perform this swap ... Keep posted for more details and pic

Buying a whole doner vehicle with the motor and everything is a great start. I almost bought my buddies 98 Tahoe to do just what you did, but for my Jeep. I would have but CA smog inspections would have killed me.

Re: v8 swap anyone?

I have been doing some research... there are several SyTY's with the LS conversions... found a couple on Youtube. I am not sure if theirs are still AWD... I am so ready to get this project going, but I gotta remain patient and not rush anything... I don't plan to remove my current power plant until I get the engine mods completed and the tranny built to handle the extra hp. I am not sure how much a 460LE can handle....my max hp is around 650, but I will surely keep here in the mid 550's..... so everything is done is based on the 650 mark.
