When syclones are antiques.........

Re: When syclones are antiques.........

I have a hard time seeing StTy values dropping much further than they already have. If one were looking to pick a price bottom I would say we are close to it now.

If you are looking for something with appreciation potential I would suggest equities or real estate, cars rarely make good investments. Even if you buy a car and then sell it 5 years later for the same exact amount you paid for it you still lose money. In addition to regular maintenance costs and registration/insurance, you also lose approximately 3% in dollar value per year due to inflation. :2cents:

I have two Syclones that are all stock. One is below 4000 miles. Another is all stock but has 75,000 miles. CA truck, woman owned. Super clean. I have another that has a built engine. Figured one that was modfied to work on was enough. Don't really care what the market prices are. Not selling any of them. Didn't buy them with the intention of raping someone over someday on a sale. If I wanted to worry about ROA. Lot of stocks to choose from.

I really dont see the idea behind keeping things "stock" for collectors value. I mean the most important thing is reputation and when these trucks came out their reputation was for whooping just about all comers. So how would a truck thats tastefully modded with all the creature comforts of stock yet have the ability to kick modern day ass be worth any less? Whats the point of saying u own something that 50 years ago kicked everything ass just to be whooped by today's 4 banger civics?

What is the point of a 100% original truck, its to reminisce about an almost brand new vehicle. I am sure almost no 57 Corvette cares if the (faster modern 4 banger) is faster than their Corevtte. Speed isn't everything.

More often than not mods are not done in a way that they disrupt the originality of the truck. That is a turn off to collectors. Also anything something is touched, the bolts usually show wear and more of chance bolt missing, stripped, plastic crack, connector is broken, put together wrong, etc. Mods often reduce reliability, and sometimes engine isn't in tune & they have poor drivability, vehicles are driven harder and experince more parts breakage.

Someday I would like to buy a 100% stock low mileage Syclone. I think it would be cool to have a brand new Syclone and to cruise around locally, drive to a meets and car shows.

I see the modified point view as well, because that is what I do. I am building my Syclone to be a quick driver, it should easily run mid 11's. If I was to sell it, the next owner won't be able to bring to any mechanic. If I had my Sy in 30 years, do you think all my replacement aftermarket parts will be available? Will my TunerPro even be still available? Will PTE be around? If I had modified my truck 10 years ago, I would probably end up changing half my part today, most of the companies that made mods for them are all done making SyTy parts. If I keep my Syclone long enough I will probably restore it back to 100% original.

Mods & Aftermarket Appearance add ons come and go, but 100% original is always in.

I wonder if the SyTy bounce is so difficult because of original pricing? 26k for Syclones and 28+k for Typhoons..that was a lot of money at the time.

Re: When syclones are antiques.........

The secret to raising the values of our trucks is in the popularity. Look at what the movie Fast and the Furious did for the Supras. I guarantee if there was a syclone in that movie the values would skyrocket. The flip side is a bunch of goofs ruining great trucks. How many times have you all had to explain what our trucks are? Not many people know about them, and until that changes- they will not bring the big bucks. Personally, I like having an affordable truck that can lay some wood to many performace cars costing 2-3 times as much.
