E- If that is where it's coming from, mark the orientation of the propshaft front and rear (I have a set of those pesky torx bolt sockets). Remove it and take it for a spin w/o. If the noise is gone, then maybe you need to have it looked at. Out of balance...but it would probably vibrate at HWY speed. Or maybe a squeaky joint? I did not ask if you had a Gilbert or stocker. Is there any wear by the trans to shifter cable on the propshaft?
I'm just throwing out some ideas I thought of on the way home.
You need to grease the double cardan joint. Get yourself one of the needle tips for a grease gun and go to town.
In the double cardan there is a ball & socket in the middle that dries out that causes the squeak.
There are two different sizes, one for the rear and one for the front. I don't remember off the top of my head. If you're not sure which one you have...it's prolly a stocker. I can take a look next time. I have upgraded to a Gilbert when I did the rear suspension. As for a mark..it would be like a scratch on the PShaft near where the shifter cable attaches to the trans..think a lathe and a sharp object digging out the material. Try the greasing and see if it goes away, if not LMK and I'll bring over the torx bit set.
my first stock propshaft squeaked for three days before breaking while I was slowing to a stock light.. If there was no stop light it would have taken out tons of stuff under the truck. You can greese the hell out of it but from my experiences i'd just remove it and save to upgrade like mentioned above.
I'm gonna yank it out tomorrow.
No harm to the truck driving it without the propshaft right?
there's mixed feelings on it... some say it'll destroy your transfer case while others say it won't.
I've personally went six months of daily useage without one in the past but I babied the hell out of it. Plus without the front propshaft the truck is useless.. it's horrible pulling out in traffic etc. It's a burn out machine so take it easy if you do have to drive it in two wheel drive.
I took mine out when I lubed it because I wasn't sure where the squeak was. Once I removed it and moved the double cardan joint around by hand I could tell where the squeak was coming from.Awesome, Ill get back under it tomorrow and hopefully that sorts it out!
Can it be greased without being removed?
Thanks

With it removed you can also add grease to the CV end of the shaft as well.

Found it! Now i just need to get the grease tip, Fire up the truck and see that is in fact the source of the squeaking.
and I ripped the rubber boot around the cable from the trans. where do i get a new one of those?
One thing after another =]
