Grounding the RCA's makes the noise worse, a lot worse. I also eliminated the head unit as the culprit when I put in a brand new, different brand head unit and still had noise.

The gains on my amps are set just as WyoSyclone suggested. It's how I set all the amps I do.
As I said before, I've been in this profession for over 7 years now and have easily done several hundreds of amp installs. I can count on one hand how many have had a noise issue and those were solved by changing the radio's ground connection.

I have a feeling it has something to do with how I wired my battery in the bed.

Probably the case... chasing ground loop issues is always fun....


Your test with using the external source, and running cables directly to the battery has already told you what your problem is.


Run your head unit off an external battery (antenna disconnected), then plug in the antenna and see what happens. If still quiet, take the ignition back to the vehicle. Just keep adding the wires back till you get the noise to come back. If it's coming in via the B+ or ignition you'll probably have to add a filter (with a toroid - only ones I trust are Navone's), if it's coming in via ground, move the ground to where the amps are grounded.

Your only choice may be to run directly to the battery... I normally do that just as a matter of course on installs.

So i got the problem patched up.

Couldn't find why there is so much noise in the trucks electrical system, but I ran a power and ground from the deck to the battery, but I had to run it on the driver's side. If i ran it on the passengers side with the main power wire for the battery, it picked up noise.

The only thing I can think of is that it's picking up some AC ripple from the alternator.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys, what a nightmare.
