I am screwed!

Re: I am screwed!

You cut also cut that corner off of the airbox where the downpipe is hitting. You would obviously need to recreate that corner with some fiberglass or something.. When I threw a 350 into my old blazer I had to modify that A/C airbox quite extensively.. There is plenty of room in there to play with..

Good luck.

I guess the bolt on stock replacement turbo and a stock replacement DP dont like each other. NOW what do I do?? Even bolted up it does not fit in the truck. Somehow the holes dont line up and the direction the DP is in is wrong

This isn't going to help much but remember some months back I asked you about the rpm turbo.. well here's pics of how much off my turbo was from my totally stock downpipe.

It sucked and we needed the truck done asap so our only option was to cut the dp and rotate it a few degrees then reweld it back together.. we did this with the dp in the truck which helped make the weld job horribly difficult which resulted in a horrible but effective weld. I'd suggest doing something like this maybe but take the dp out of the truck when rewelding it :)

I think I'd try something like this before buying a Roush. Or maybe removing just the flange, reclocking it, and welding it back on.

Re: I am screwed!

I have the same problem, though I have a custom turbo from Campbell Automotive... I just need a different adapter plate and problem will be solved. Does anyone by chance make an adapter plate? Or can any shop make one locally? I really don't want to sell my turbo to get another.... And I really like the downpipe.

Re: I am screwed!

1) Cut downpipe behind sensor
2) Bold the little part of the DP to the turbo
3) Line up the rest of the DP with the newly cut piece attached to the turbo
4) Get a sharpie and draw a straight line acrossed the cut
5) Take complete DP out of the truck
6) Line up the lines and weld it together
Shouldn't be that hard. An hour tops. Or take the 2 pieces to a muffler shop and have them weld it up for like $10.

Re: I am screwed!

right now the options are
1) redrill and tap mounting plate
2) shop quoted me 80$ to make a plate
3) sell DP and go back to stock

DP is coated and I dont want to cut it. I rather sell it first.
I miss my roush. It was as fast if not faster then my Sy with no problems...ever.

Re: I am screwed!

That's lame, you almost had that truck running.....if you don't have your stock down pipe, I'd say you could borrow mine but my stock dp was welded to the rest of the exhaust making it one piece from the turbo flange to the tail pipe......done be the last owner.... but if you need it I could cut it, I was looking for a excuse to weld on a new set up. 80 bucks doesn't seem like too much for it to work, and if you do option #3......I know a kid....in livermore...around the age of 22..... who owns Sy#1784....who wanted to get in on thoses downpipes but was too late, that could buy it from you... Hope you figure it out...

arent you close to finishing it up??? i know it must be very discouraging, but once you get it corrected that things gonna move. If I was in your situation Id just drop the $80 on the adapter and call it a day. that is unless you can redrill and tap the mounting plates without too much of a problem.

a roush is cool, but its not a syclone. a guy almost wrecked tryin to look at my sy today :D these kinda ppl always give me encouragement.

Re: I am screwed!

ok going to sell DP and cat. Look in sale section soon. Hate to do this but I give up. I have a few locals that might want it first. Soon as I contact them and if no one wants it I will post. Also need a stock DP. I will reduce price for someone with a good stock Dp and cat too.

Also noticed the wastegate on the turbo goes to the plate?? My other one had a slot to the DP. when it opens up nothing would happen. Or am I seeing this wrong?

I've got a stocker collecting dust. Probably wouldn't hurt to chase the O2 bung threads, but other than that it's solid (if not pretty). Shipping and it's yours, lmk.

pftt you call that a headache, I just lifted up all the carpet in my typhoon and found a rusty mess with some spots of the sheetmetal as thin as paper. :squint:

Re: I am screwed!

found a way to make it work sort of. First of all I have to ask a few questions.
1) how close is the DP to the frame as it passes under the firewall. Mine is less then a 1/4 inch.
2) more important, it sits real close to the bottom of the cab. Anyone have pic of the dp as it sits by the transmission? Thanks

Now to what I can do. Last chance and I need your opinions. I can cut parts of the dp flange and weld it to the turbo bracket. The cutting of the flange will allow me to get to the turbo mounting bolts.
Picture1599mod.jpg

Picture1600mod.jpg

I will just have to weld part of the wastegate shut and open the inside for the wastegate and turbo hole a bit

Re: I am screwed!

Hey Gary, if you want my opinion I know it sucks azz, but I would sell that one and buy one that is supposed to be for that exhaust housing. I would just hate to see you cut that one up and then something not work, and if you cut it up you'll never be able to sell it to anyone. Just my thoughts bud, I know that's not what you want to hear, but it's probably for the best.
