Surging Help

A little helps guys. I'm getting a surge in the truck after i let off the gas cruise above 30 or so it will drop to about 800/1000rpm then surge to 2k . I have replaced all the vacuum lines and i double checked to timming today, so I know both are perfect. I have checked the trans fluid level and its ok, just put in th TCI deep pan with Royal Purple, and oil change was just preformed with purple & filter. If any one else knows something to check please let me know, its not hindering performance at all just mostly iritating.

Thanks,
Adam

I have this same problem with my truck. I'm not sure what it is either. :dunno:

Re: Surging Help

Has it always done this, or is this a new thing? Is your torque convertor locking/unlocking during this?

Depending on which chip/tune you're using it could be an overly lean condition tied to the lock up speed of your torque convertor.

When you close the throttle at cruise, and if the torque convertor is locked, the engine will just turn into a big airpump - only enough fuel for closed throttle (idle), little air moving through, but engine speed high. As soon as you slow down enough for the torque convertor to unlock the engine goes into a normal engine speed/idle mode - RPM drops to idle.

this is just one thought.....

Thanks wyo i'll look into it. I think i have a tci manual lockup at the shop, I'm running a v7 ultimate chip with a 3200 tci flash stall. I had the trans professional rebiult but it was doing this before the rebuild. Thanks for the help.

I've seen dozens of Ultimates that do this. Depending on the version you have, some were quite lean at idle. A new chip burn (tuned to your truck) usually fixes that problem.

An IAC clean-up, along with no vacuum leaks (test it, it's not always the lines) generally helps a lot. Also, you can get some improvement by adjusting the throttle plate stop screw.
