Need Help-Interior lights

Everytime I turn the headlights on, it blows the fuse to my stereo/overhead lights. I disconnected the stereo, and one of the vents, and it still blows the fuse. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? thanks

Nothing that I know of. The stereo has been chopped up a bit, but Everything seems to be fine there. I even disconnected the stereo altogether, unplugged the dimmer switch, and unplugged the warning chime. And it still blows the fuse when I turn the headlights on. Those are the only things I can see that are somewhat connected. Is there anything else I should check?

Does the fuse blow when you put on the parking lights or just the headlights? If you pull the terminals off the headlights themselves , does it still blow when you turn on the switch ? Hard to say without actually seeing anything . I doubt any of the factory items are blowing the fuse . Disconnect anything added until it goes away . Check all the wires in the circuit from the switch all the way to the headlights , any nicks or cuts can ground out the wires and do what you have happening . Good luck , what do you mean by stereo chopped up a bit ??

Re: Need Help-Interior lights

The wires behind the factory stereo was cut up at one time. Nothing major, as I cleaned it all up. The parking light and headlights are together arent they? When I turn on the headlights it blows the dome light fuse, or constant hot. So everything connected to it goes out(stereo, ect) The headlight fuse is fine. That is why this doesnt make any sense.

I assume you put in an aftermarket stereo/cd .What wires did you connect to with its install for the 12v+ and turn-on . Can you put just the parking lights on without blowing anything ? Yeah it seems weird , but you just have a single wire crossed somewhere . Did it do this before you cleaned up the wiring ?

Try rotating the dash light dimmer switch all the way to the right. (without turning the lights on). This will turn off the dash lights. Then turn on the park lights. Does it still blow the fuse?
Sounds like a crossed wire in the messed up radio circuit. Dash light wire is grounded.(it`s gray)

Re: Need Help-Interior lights

Actually I bought the truck this way, and the factory stereo was still in it but not working. I just cleaned up the wires and left the factory radio in. Even if I take the radio out completely, it still blows the constant hot fuse as soon as I turn on the parking lights. I havent tried turning the dash lights off yet. Ill try that tomorrow. Thanks guys.......

Re: Need Help-Interior lights

Actuallyan I remembered that the dimmer switch was taken off completely to eliminate it. The thing that doesnt make any sense is both the dome light/stereo and parking light works perfectly fine on their own, but as soon as both of them are on at the same time, the fuse for the dome/stereo blows........

I had the same issue, I found out that it was the Fact. fog lights. The wire to the bulb inside the housing got chaffed from moving aound and ended up grounding out on the metal inside the light. Easy to check shut off fog lights replace fuse as they are all on the same. Then turn on stereo, interior lights, and headlights. Hope this helps.
