Engine mounts

So anyway, my alternator keeps kissing my upper radiator hose when my truck goes into boost, so I think it's time to change my motor mounts. I did a search here, and it seems that all you guys are raving about solid motor mounts. I'm kinda worried about doing this. Has anyone had a problem with this possibly damaging the block, or cracking the frame? Seems like it would be too rigid. I was thinking about going polyurethane or polygraphite instead.

Re: Engine mounts

I just put in a set of solids from JS Manufacturing that i bought through turbotime. they fit good and it definitely holds the motor in place. If your gonna take the time to replace them dont bother with rubber (they will wear out again quick if they dont melt quicker) and ive heard that poly's melt too. The solids arent too obnoxious either, dont shake too bad or anything and its nice piece of mind... not the easiest install but not too hard either...

Re: Engine mounts

BTW, how easy should it be to change them if I have access to a lift?

Re: Engine mounts

I was having the same problem. I have the JS frame mounts and Moroso solid V8 mounts all ready to go. Just need time to actually swap them out. I hear it's a PITA but here's a write-up that I found doing a search on here for more info that should make it easier.

Re: Engine mounts

If U Are Going To Do The Swap...go Solid... Both The Rubber And Poly Mounts Will Melt....do It Once And Forget About It...
As Far As How Hard It Will Be...gonna Be Diff For Everybody....do A Search..there Was A Real Good Post On This A Couple Of Weeks Ago

Re: Engine mounts

Not to get off the topic of motor mounts, but if they are not bad, why not try a engine tie down first?

Re: Engine mounts

go stock or solid. polys melt. solids WILL shake your truck though. i don't know how these guys are saying that they won't. i have the same pads on moroso mounts just like everyone else on a 57K cherry syclone and my shit shakes. i had my RA balanced by the guys who have done industrial balancing for us for years; they are anal to the point where it's annoying.

Re: Engine mounts

I'm not really worry about engine vibration. I'm more worried about breaking my block or my frame. Being how hard my trans shifts, and the fact that I race my truck periodically (autocross/roadracing), that there is alotta potential for damage to be had when your mounts have no give.

Re: Engine mounts

One option, and one we did on a local truck when his mount broke was just to replace the drivers side.

As the pass side normally doesn't break, since it is in compression (drivers in tension/shear).

He got solid on 1 side holds motor down, rubber on other, and rubber on trans. No vibrations, 1/2 the work.

Just 1 option for some.

Engine strap caused false knock on mine.

That's an excellent idea. I might do just that. Thanks for the idea!

You know, I havent even checked mine yet. I tightened it down when we were in the hotel parking lot to make sure the motor didnt move. I noticed yours was a little loose when I felt it before we raced.

Re: Engine mounts

So nobody's had problems with solid mounts cracking the block or frame? What's the most miles any of you have on your solid mounts?

Re: Engine mounts

I have been making and selling the frame pads for 4 years now. I would say a good percentage of the fast and rebuilt engine trucks have them installed. I have yet to hear of any cracking of any sorts.

90% of the people don't notice any difference in vibration considering a syty isn't a caddy anyways.

I can only think of 1 or 2 people that felt it was too much vibration.

Re: Engine mounts

I guess I'll probably just go with the solids. I'll probably order them next week.

Re: Engine mounts

Ok, got my mounts. I didn't look at the stock mounts lately, so quick question. Am I gonna need to purchase some nuts and bolts? Or is everything I need holding my stock mounts together?
