im trying to decide where to mount my new ic heat exchanger

its sightly bigger and thicker. right now im thinking i will mount it in front of the radiator behind the grill on the passenger side. and run the lines through the fender. will this effect the cooling of the engine coolant? its about 12 by 10 inches. has anyone done this sorta thing before?

thanks guys, i didnt think anyone would respond

Hey dont get yourself down so fast, people will see it and respond to it. I have a big trans cooler that is about the same size in front of my radiator on the pass side. I dont habve any problems. As long as your fan clutch is good and it pulling air it should not be a problem. If you notice an increse in temp with the cooler installed a lower temp thermostat will help it too.

Firstly, I wouldn't expect too many people to respond in the 2-hour time frame you permitted... However...

I'm assuming that you're using a water-air heat exchanger. With the size you mentioned, I don't think that putting it in the location you suggested will affect the coolant temperature at all. However, I don't see it as beneficial to performance. If you're going to throw something between the grill and the radiator, you'd be better off going with a larger air-to-air IC, as the water-to-air system only works well in colder climates, or as a single-use system in a drag-race application. If you're in CA, I'd definitely go A2A.

Pics, and more information would help. I read your original post and didn't get a good idea of what your wanting to do, what you had exactly.

There was a guy on here a while back by the name of anthony if I remember right who did a slightly larger then stock cche and thicker mounted behind the grill in front of the radiator and had great success with it I believe... maybe try searching for his findings.. I believe he posted dyno numbers at one point as well but ended up selling the setup to upgrade.

Also I have a 3" thick air2air intercooler that covers 90% of the radiator and I don't have cooling issues.. but have upgraded my stock clutch fan to a volvo 3000cfm efan

Man you need to see a therapist. You post at Midnight and want people to jump on your deal by 2am?

You could always mount your new CCHE in the stock location and put some fans on it.

I been daily driving my Ty for the last 8 years with the giant ATR aux IC that covers the whole radiator. No probs, nice coolant temps and upper stays cool to the touch. HTH.
