Larger torsion bar???

Let's see if anyone has looked into this. So hopefully it'll save me some time of doing it myself....

I threw my dad's truck on the lift at work a while ago to do an oil change on it. It's an '02 Silverado 2500HD, Duramax of course. As I was under there, I took a look at the torsion bars on the thing. I was amazed on how much the resemble the bars on our trucks. It looked pretty much the exact same, except it was way thicker, of course. But it does look like it might slide right into the lower control arm. It has the same style adjuster as well, so it really seems like it might work. The length looks pretty much the same. But I haven't had a chance to make any measurements to see if it would work. If it would bolt right in, imagine how well the increased spring rate will make the truck handle. It should ride like a rock and remove alot of the sway out of the truck, which is the biggest thing that's keeping my truck from running decent times on the autocross course. Slap these on with some beltech leaves in the back, with my already installed poly bushings, Koni shocks, rear swaybar, borgeson shaft and AGR box, with race rubber. Sound like a good substitution for a coil over setup for people like myself who don't want to really modify the truck accept for little bolt on goodies.

Has anyone else looked into this?

Re: Larger torsion bar???

i havve a set of higher rated bars sitting here.

put them in cuz the originals were sitting to low.

recently changed back to an original rating to make the truck sit lower in the front.

dont ask the rating on these cuz i ont know but i recall there were 3 different ratings.

the extras i have are the highest rating.

Re: Larger torsion bar???

The sy/ty torsion bars are a smaller diameter than any other S10 I have ever seen.. My blazer has much thicker bars than my ty did.. If I were you I would just get a set from a 4x4 S10 that came with a 4.3.. That way you know that they would fit and be the right length..
