Turbo drain fitting leak

OK, I can admit when I'm beat. This thing is kickin my butt. When I replaced my oil pan last summer due to the drain plug being TRIPLE oversize, I remember having lots of trouble getting (what I thought was) the correct seal for the oil drain back fitting that fits into the pan. I remember the fitting had some bizarre, mangled washer seal on it that leaked. When I ordered the part from GM, what showed up was some really dinky little o-ring. I thought "there is no possible way this is right". I called Partech (GM's parts tech line) and they said that was the right part. I guess I *thought* I knew better, and came up with some kind of washer seal--I think it was meant for air conditioning. It fit perfect, there were no gaps, I thought I had it made. Umm...yeah. Right. It started leaking pretty much right away. Nothing serious, it would take quite a few hundred miles before it started to get wet. But I detest leaks, and this is driving me crazy now. Is that stupid little o-ring REALLY the correct part? Cause it looks like a real PITA to do with everything still in the truck. It wasn't so bad when I was doing the pan cause everything was out already. But if I'm gonna do it again, I want this to be the LAST time. What does everyone else do/use?

Re: Turbo drain fitting leak

I had the same problem before I took the motor out. Since finding that washer was going to be near impossible I used a rubber coated washer that is used for oil pan plugs (we had it in the shop) and then I used the good old black RTV on the threads. I don't know if it is going to work as the motor is STILL at the builders and not running yet, but I'm pretty confident in the fix. I may put some sort of sealant on the inside of the pan as well.

You may want to make sure it's not leaking from the little 2" hose just in front of that fitting. I'm going to replace mine with something else, although I'm not quite sure what yet.
