How to set Blake TV cable?

Re: How to set Blake TV cable?

i set the cable clamp, (just a random guess). and started adjusting the clicker. At first it wouldn't kickdown. But i kept adjusting the clicker until it would kickdown from 3rd to 2nd. Only problem is that i ran the clicker as far (tight) as it would go, and i'm still not where i want to be. So, when i adjust the cable clamp, should i lengthen the cable, or make it shorter?

is there a certain measurement of slack that the cable needs to have in the WOT position?

normally you just sett your cable at maximum and that got wide open throttle at the throttle body and it will set itselve.

As Bezerk mentioned. Keep in mind this is NOT a kick down or shifting cable. It is for pressure. More throttle more pressure the trans will build.

Re: How to set Blake TV cable?

with two adjustment points, and no way of "self adjusting" i'm trying to set it based on the performance of the transmission.

right now under slight throttle <10%, it does 1-2 @ 20mph, 2-3 @ 35mph, and 3-4 @ 45mph. I know stock it does 3-4 @ 40mph. and the truck stays in 2nd for a lonnng time. Its a high dollar trans, and i dont want to damage it, so i'm not doing any WOT blasts.

Re: How to set Blake TV cable?

yea, the Blake cable, has a "clicker" also, but it doesnt click, you have to manually set it, it doesnt set itself. also, the steel cable's length is adjustable. So there's 2 adjustment points.

Re: How to set Blake TV cable?

If you have a lot of money in the trans I would set it via a pressure gauge. There is a port on the side of trans you can install a gauge in, ask your trans builder what the pressures should be.

Get OUT of your head it has anything to do with shift points. Ok, it does, but it is NOT the right way to adjust them. The governer is. The builder could have changed it, springs wore, who knows at this point.

TV Cable does NOT = shift point.

Re: How to set Blake TV cable?

The way i set mine was this.

The "clicker" was set half way in its travel limits. Then i pulled the cable just tight enough to take all the slack out. From there with the pan off I had a buddy rotate the throttle to WOT. then from there adjusted the "clicker" so that just at wot the TV plunger was fully seated not more not less.

I did mine with the pan off.
1. Have someone step on gas pedal.
2. Release TV cable lock, pull back on TV cable.
3. Set TV cable lock.
4. Get under truck.
5. Have someone step on gas pedal or rotate throttle linkage to WFO (wide F'ing open).
6. Check to see if TV plunger is fully depressed into valve body.
7. Return throttle linkage to rest position.
8. Release TV cable lock.
9. Move the cable inward 2 notches.
10. Set cable lock.
11. Repeat steps 4-10 until the TV plunger is all the way into the valve body without overtravelling (TV cable to tight). As the throttle linkage just reaches its' stop, the TV plunger should reach its' stop as well.

Re: How to set Blake TV cable?

Per the manual:

1-2 shift occurs at 11-15 mph, 1-2 at 17-25, 3-4 at 38-50 (all at min throttle)
1-2 at WOT 23-34
4-3 coast down 33-46, 3-2 at 13-21 2-1 at 8-10

Have fun...

cheese and rice. what a difference, the truck runs better then it ever did.

it took 3 people, but i got it adjusted. Before at WOT, the plunger was only about 5/8 of the way in the valve body. I set the clicker in the center, and set the wire clamp to max out the plunger at WOT.

thanks a ton guys.

Re: How to set Blake TV cable?

TV Cable Adjustment
Procedure:

1. With the engine off, depress and hold down the metal re-adjust tab at the engine end of the
TV cable.
2. Move the slider until it stops against the fitting.
3. Release the re-adjustment tab.
4. Rotate the throttle lever to its full travel position (WOT).
5. The slider must ratchet toward the level when the lever is rotated to its full travel position.
6. The cable may appear to function properly with the engine stopped and cold.
7. Re-check cable after the engine is hot.
8. Road test the vehicle.
