Im interested in a cable and was wondering if you have made any progress with the USB board so that i dont have to have the USB adaptor?

Thanks

No....the USB is sketchy from what I've played with so far. I would rather not come out with it unless I have it working 100%, which the chips that handle the conversion all are pretty much the same......which sometimes work......and sometimes they don't. :(

I'm working on the side project heavily right now (cladding reproduction), so new board designs are put off for the time being.

If it helps, I found my Belkin USB/Serial adapter on Ebay for $7 shipped.

Dan,
I'm still in for the next batch and am still offering my help if you need it for anything regarding further revisions. I didn't see your comment on "how small do you want to go". I work at Universal Avionics System Corporation in Tucson. www.uasc.com and we place componenets that are almost invisibile to the human eye. So the answer is... as small as we can. We're always fighting for real estate on a PCB. I'm not the PCB cad guy, I'm the mechanical guy that makes all these printed circuit boards fit in a box. Still, I might be able to help out.

Any laptop with a 9 pin serial port will work. Otherwise you'll need a USB-Serial adatper. The belkin is the most popular. I was able to pick one up off of Ebay for about $5. I do not sell these yet. I DO currently have boards that I'm designing (on 3rd revision now) for surface mount and USB capable, but these are still months out at my rate. ;)

Can you still get new laptops with a 9 pin serial port:dunno: ? Or would I be better off waiting for a USB capable board? I in no hurry.

While this is true, the requirements for DM are very light, meaning that instead of going and spending $1500 on a newish laptop, you can buy one for $300, which would be older...thus having the connector.

In addition, there is someone that makes the USB version already, Craig Moates, www.moates.net I have talked to him personally before and it's a general understanding that I don't want to step on his toes, although he's seeming to branch off into more complex things, as I'm branching off into cladding reproduction. I probably will always make the cables, but only short runs here and there.

I do have another batch in the works, but if you're waiting for me to make a USB version, I'd go with Craig's setup. All of my research time is spent at the moment working on the cladding.

Thanks everyone for your interest. I have the boards in house and all the parts, now just waiting for me to assemble them. I'll announce when they are ready.

I would love to get my hands on one of those cables when they are available. l actually went to the TTS website first when I did a search for datamaster software, had a heart attack when I saw the price, and then figured I would search the forum for some type of alternative. Man I love this forum.

Add me to the list with extension. If you have them ready I would prefer a USB style.

Yeah, my new laptop only has USB. I hate having to carry the invertor for the old one...
