I am looking to get an oil pan for the new motor that is going in the truck, but ran into an interesting dilemma:

In order to get a reasonable amount of oil in the pan of these motors (7 quarts), and keep AWD, the pan ends up being 10" deep. This is if I go with an RPM pan, or the configuration that Stef's, Moroso, or anyone else has drawn up for this motor. The problem is, no one makes an oil pump with a pickup that will work in a 10" deep pan. I was planning on using the Moroso 22171 pump, but that is for an 8.25" deep pan. I have talked to both Moroso's and Melling's tech support departments, and both tell me that I am out of luck when it comes to running a 10" deep pan.

What are you guys with high capacity pans running for an oil pump?

You could always cut a regular pickup and tig weld an extension in it..

That's what I'm looking at now, but I really wanted to run a spur gear pump, or something similar. But there's no way to extend the pick up on those, since the pick up is built into the pump body :(

Like he said or there are other ways to get more oil in the system, I ended up running a huge cooler that puts another 1.5 quarts in the engine

If youve got your heart set on using that style pump why not get a local machine shop to whittle out a spacer of the right height to put between the pump and main cap? A longer grade 5 or better oil pump mounting bolt and a extended oil pump drive shaft is the only other parts youll have to source.

you have room, so instead of going down just go left and right.
