After Coating and before Coating.

The piston coating is a "cermet thermal barrier coating" designed for high temperature/pressure applications and is especially suited for piston domes in forced inducted and nitrous motor applications.

The bearing coating is a dry film lubricant coating applied at micron thickness and used to prevent scuffing, galling, and reducing reciprocating friction.

What kind of steering setup are you using?

Unisteer has their bolt in rack and pinion on the market.

I spent a bunch of time researching the rack option. Both chassis shops said that wouldn't be a good idea in this vehicle. I have a couple friends with racks in s10's and they aren't that happy with them.

I asked for some help on the pro-touring board & lateral-g.net and they pointed me in the direction of Flaming Rivers. I contacted Steve Cole and man i was convinced that there box was the way to go.

I plan to rid the black gt of the zq8 box and install another flaming rivers box in that project also. It's a quality product.

page - 36 Sept 15, 2006 update
I installed the new Flaming Rivers Steering Box and let me say it was on in 10 minutes.
It's nice having compatible parts. Everything fit perfect.

Looks like that coating took away some of the "deepness" in your pistons?! Will your c.r. go up now?!

How much to coat the bearings, that is a GREAT idea!!! ---

Hey Marty, I must say your truck isn't just a build - it's more like a piece of artwork! I have never in my life seen so many fabricated parts, and all of them are really special - not just hacked out, but cut in a precise way that makes them look awesome, while being functional. From an engineering standpoint, it's great and I've read all 50 some pages, even as my wife has 'temped' me to stop reading  . I'll be interested in seeing what the GT weighs when finished - not that you're not going to have enough horsepower to overcome that little obstacle :rotf:

Marty, you've been very generous with your time, and in showing your build and sharing all the technical details and parts you're using. Why don't you spend a little bit of time and tell those of us who don't know you a little about yourself, your obvious love of vehicles, and why you chose a GT for this build??

Thanks,
Rob

It is, but it's also something that I have a in limited quantities right now (I get great benefits here but the pay is dirt  ) ... but, I think finishing the front end upgrade are in the future for the truck... did the brakes and the outer steering parts already.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread ;)

Thank you very much for the compliments on the build. I am sure having a good time building it. I just wish i had more time.

Never thought about it. But I've been in the Sy Ty Sonoma GT community since 1988. Really 1988 when the first debuted at the Chicago Auto Show. I've owned around 15 Sy Ty and even 2 Sonoma GT. Wait i forgot i used to own a Red Syclone.

Why did i choose a Sonoma GT. It was all about wheel fitment. Something you can't do with a Syclone or a Typhoon. The ground effects are bolted to the outside of the factory sheetmetal which doesn't allow you to properly space a wheel in the wheel opening. Thus the reason i choose a Sonoma GT. I also didn't want to hassle with the AWD on this project. I am saving that for the next project maybe.

Good Morning All,

Guy and Crew at Rockford Racecraft are getting ready to inspect the block for external flaws.

2007_01_25_2.jpg

They found some flaws that would have to be taken care of before it could be painted.
See the Left Hand side of the block.

2007_01_25_4_Fix.jpg

Just a close up view.

2007_01_25_5_Fix.jpg

Needed to get the temporary hardware organized. We plan to install all new hardware on the truck.
We will keep you posted as to whom we choose.

2007_01_28_001.jpg

Had to put the motor together so I can work on the Turbo support brackets.

2007_01_28_004.jpg

Added a couple more shelves to the rack for parts.

2007_01_28_005.jpg

More to come next week.

Good Morning All,

Sorry work has really been kicking my butt the last two weeks.
Still working on the truck instead of sleeping.

Guy cleaned up the burs and casting flaws on the block.

2007_01_29_0.jpg

The front of the block was pretty nasty. Looks very good now.
Can't wait to paint the block.

2007_01_29_1.jpg

Put all the cladding back on the truck. Getting it ready for final Fit.
Only one piece of cladding left to make in Fiberglass.
So I headed off to VFN Fiberglass.
