I recentally bought a 89 Sunbird GT and I know there are other Sunbird GT owners on here.
I have questions about some stuff so i'm looking for other owners and also sunbird websites.
I did find a Grand Am site but nothing about sunbirds.

Re: sunbird GT owners and websites

well, i don;t have a sunbird ('91 cav Z24), yet the love for Sy's has broght me here. and i can help.

www.v6z24.com is your new friend if you ever look to get performance out of that car. great 2nd gen j-body site. they are a good 'mostly' friendly site. Lots of info for maitnance, repair, and performance.
Do you have the 2.8? stick? thats your best starting ground. There are near two dozen swaping in a 3400 out of a newer GM and easily in the 14's, turbo and tuning gets you a 13 - low 12 sec car. may not mean much on this site but for a 15yr old econimy car with less than 5g in it thats pritty good.

I may be able to help you with your q's, if not i can deff get you a page or a user that can help. Whats do you need to know about?

Re: sunbird GT owners and websites

well...having a cavy i can;t help you with finding the switch. nothing on either side of the gauge cluster? i;m shure a quick post in the General J-Body Discussion would help find that out.
srry to hear about the 4cyl, but at least you get some better mpg's. FWD performace prolly doesn;t interest you at all having the two s-series that you have.

I had a '90 Z-24 5 speed, and I was always on J-body.org, but v6z24 is better

yeah, i been to the .org before, yet if you aren;t boosting many of them can be rude and 90% of that site is for 3rd gens.

I was on there years ago (2001 IIRC), and I just stayed in the 2nd gen section

I can't find a switch.

Little switch on the left side pod below the interior lights dimmer.

I kinda have one. I sold it on ebay back in November, still waiting for the guy to pick it up. Way fun cars, mine has internal issues and I'm busy trying to get a Ty back on the road, no time/cash for the Sunbird. I was considering a RWD 3.8 turbo conversion, but that's WAY too involved.

Enjoy it!

Think i tried that. it just turns the interior lights on. Don't know if it matters but it's a convertible.

Re: sunbird GT owners and websites

Hmm... I can't imagine GM would make separate pods for hardtops and convertibles, but then again it is GM. I'll snap a pic when I get home, see if yours looks like that. (Mine's an '89 hardtop.)

You coming to KC with Adam this year?

Argh... Out of town, forgot to take the pic before I left. I'll try to remember when I get home. I had it on ebay, some guy from Michigan won the auction and sent me a deposit, but haven't heard from him in over a month. I guess he determined it wasn't worth 8 hours each way. It's got internal issues, think it swalled a valve. He wanted it for the body, he had one with a fresh engine and rotted body.

I'll try to remember for when I get home, hopefully it's not under too much snow till then. :(

I used to own cavaliers (1 '89 Z24 2.8 5 speed, and two 92 3.1l RS Cavs, auto and 5 speed)

Is it the 2.0 turbo? I had a 1.8 turbo in my 85. I should have taken the gauges out of it for a spare for the typhoon before i got rid of it. I did keep the spare computer from it for future typhoon use if mine goes bad. I have an 04 eco cavalier right now.

I went to an autowrecker a few days ago, there were a few 'birds with the 2.0 turbo, I was tempted to jack a turbo but i didnt have the tools to do so

Hmmm... Not what I have. I even looked in the owner's manual - it doesn't even mention foglights, and it shows your pod in the drawing. Perplexing. Oh, that's right - it's GM.

Please excuse the retarded auto-focus...

Yes, these are the 2.0L, 165hp, 175lb-ft. I think they switched to the 2.0 in '88 (not positive) but bailed on the turbo-4 for the 3.1-V6 in '91. (Used to have one of them too - not quite as fun w/o boost.)

Good luck man, not sure what else to tell ya. If the guy doesn't come for it and I part it out I'll send ya the pod. :)
