Collector Insurance for SyTy's? Who to go with?

Since I don't drive my Sy daily at all, I want to find a decent collector insurance. Want to insure the truck at a certain value too.

Who do you guys have that have collector insurance? Do I need an appraisal?

With my Sy, I had Sneed out of Tennesee (like the truck  ). Paid $285/yr for 15k valuation. No appraisal needed.

Ty is on expensive "regular" insurance so I can drive it and not freak that I'll get busted driving it to work. Meanwhile, truck hasn't seen daylight in months.

Grundy worldwide. I have my 52 chevy insured with them, and will insure the sy when i put it back on the road. no apprasial needed, and i have a $10k value on the chevy and it cost me $95 a year. Also, there is NO limit on use.

i have condon skelly collector insurance on the 59 , 25k replacement value, its less than $300.00 a year , no milage limit with them either. i'll insure the ty with them also but right now the ty sits with just comp insurance thru state farm.

Skelly sounds like the way to go...

Grundy is a little more expensive but still very reasonable...
I have full coverage and its insured for 18g and I pay $250-$280 a year and they just replaced my front windshield with no drama and no deductable!

The downside is, you need to prove that you have a garage, second car, can't be used for commercial use and theirs a 5000 mile limit.

good thing you mentioned the milage limit , i didnt know or forgot about it. i called about a dozed places and everyone had a reason not to insure my 59, state farm asked why no hood and i had to explain i didnt fit , one of the other collector insurance companies said no because it has nitous , another said they wanted it appraised and proof it would be in a garage or building with a alarm. condon was the easiest place to deal with i thought.

What he said. I have grundy for my sy, t-type and firehawk. Only $720 per year for $20k coverage on each. All I had to do was send in some pics of each car. They claim your rates won't increase over the years either.

Well Grundy won't work cause no one under 25 can operate the vehicle.
USAA- you have to be a member of the military to do it.
Condon Skelly- too new, won't insure on a single policy.
Sneed: won't cover any vehicle with AWD, told them about other people having their Typhoon through them and they said they changed the policy.

Anyone else have collector insurance?

you can try haggerty or farm bureau; they both offer stated value policies. not collectors per se, but still stated value.

Re: Collector Insurance for SyTy's? Who to go with?

Thought I would bring this back from the dead. I added the Sy to my Grundy policy. Put a 30K stated value on it and it costs $420 a year. That is with no deductable and no mileage limit.

Anyone else looked into this recently? Trucks are getting older/more rare all the time. I feel better knowing that no matter what happens to it, if it is gone i get a $30k check. Will be nice in another year and a half I will have historic tags and no more worry of emmisions

Re: Collector Insurance for SyTy's? Who to go with?

Old post but I will add to it.I have my 85 El Camino show car insured with Grundy Worldwide and registered as a collector. I did not need an appraisal, I just sent pictures and told them what I wanted to cover it for and they judge by pictures and you come to an "agreed value." Mine is covered for $35k and my only mileage limitation is determined by state rules (3500 a year). The only thing they care about is that it's stored in a garage, you have a primary vehicle with insurance in your name, clean driving record, and must be at least 25.

The downfall, is if you're driving it you better have a good reason. Say you decide to just drive it to work on a nice tuesday and you total it. They want to know why you were using it for work etc. They don't limit miles but they only really want you using it for car show/meet purposes.

$35k value, 490 a year.
