Thoughts about GT35R

I've been looking at the GT35R for a while and reading posts about the turbo. Every one that got one seems to love the turbo. Decided that ballbearing is worth the extra $$$
What I like is that you apparently doesn't need a high stall TC. With high stall I'm talking about 3000rpm and up. The turbo seems to be very "streetable" for that (in my opinion) big hp numbers it can produce.

Does anyone run the "ported shroud" version that supposed to help against the "surge" problem.

Also looking at the diffrent exhaust housing. V-band with external WG really makes a clean installation IMO.

Anyone running GT35 with a internal WG and a stock stylish actuator http://www.turbotime.us/images/PTE-PBO081-1005-hires.JPG ?

From what I've read the 0,85 are the a/r used in our trucks?
Would a/r 0,82 (external with V-band exhaust) dramaticly change the performance of the turbo in our trucks.

Alot of thought and questions.
Hope that many will contribute with experiences and advice.

Re: Thoughts about GT35R

I am running the gt35r with the internal actuator and i love it. I am also running a 2800 stall with no issues at all. This turbo spools very fast even through my dual a2a ic's. I would never buy a non bb turbo ever again. The only thing i don't like is that it's a garret cartridge center section. On the supra we are running a dual bb 80mm made by Innovative. Their turbos are able to be completely dissasembled and you can swap or replace parts very easily where as once the garret is done.....that's it.

Re: Thoughts about GT35R

I have twin gt35's (not the R's though). Of course I have 2 more cylinders now in the mix.

Haven't driven it to know, but the 3400 stall convertor should help. LOL

Re: Thoughts about GT35R

I'm running a gt35r on a stock converter with stock style internal wastegate... I love it, the lag is pretty small even with such a low stall. The only complaint I have is that I'd need around a 2600 rpm stall to build boost on the line ( I max at about 3 psi right now)

I've seen your project on pictures but didnt know that they were the "smaller" non R's
but I guess you can see on the compressor side that they are "non R's"

It's so much to take in from the nice engine compartment pictures :)

around 2600rpm is just the desired stall I have been thinking of getting to. Good to hear someone else is having the same thought about stall rpm.

I'm more and more thinking of getting the intern WG with actuator.
Much less expensive since I've got the ITS minigate which I dont feel is up for the task and I dont nedd to fab up the part between turbo och the manifold. If I go with extern WG I want to put the WG before the turbo directly were the two primaries "connect".

Also, with internal WG the option on twinentry is availeble.

I want the supra style turbo :)
Also the GT35 are non warranty turbos since Garret says they are "race" turbos, so its just like you say's when they're done theyre just stylish paperweights LOL

PTE changed them slightly according to my specs, compression etc.

Nice engine compartment should have been very cramped and not much space left.

Re: Thoughts about GT35R

if you buy it from me, it has a 1 year warrenty just like all the other turbos we offer. the 35R is an awesome turbo on a syty.......its actually my favorite turbo. theres no need for a ported shroud cover unless your building a DSM...... syty's have absolutely no surge issues with a 35R. you also only need about 2500-2600rpm stall to instantly spool a 35R. this leaves you a lot more street manners/drivability than most other turbo offerings.

DSM?

I am looking at this route as well. What size is the DP?

Will the internal WG really provide good enough boost control?

That was the stuff I was really after

Also, can you keep the AC and is there a bracket to support the heavier GT35R?

What is the difference between the L and E versions?

I see on Turbo Time's site there are two wastegate actuators for the internal one.

15lbs and and a 25 - 30lbs one.

How much hp relates to each actuator? I am running vortecs now so the airflow will be different.

Cheers guys!
