Well Fv( MELLING and their China(-"like") grade castings!

(Is that how they get around loopholes in the business world?)
You can't call it a piece of shit but you can say it is just like a piece of shit...

Is melling paying anything out even for a new pump etc?

Why would they?
Something in "your" motor broke "their" pump, right?

pshhhht
what a joke of a company to do such shady business.

Ol Pa Melling must be seasick from rolling over in his grave so many times.

I have to return this pump as it won't work in my custom RPM sheetmetal oil pan as the pan is too deep.

I got my M55A a couple of years ago, and if I remember correctly, it has "USA" stamped right in the casting. Do the new castings include this?

This is what we get for eliminating so many restrictions on free trade. It gives Americans no incentive to buy American-made products. American companies start production in foreign countries at lower overheads either to keep up with other companies, or simply because they're greedy, and have no regard for the economic well-being of the country they live in. This is the fruit of the republican labor. It's rotten.

It's just sad to see Melling, a name that used to be synonymous with quality, tainted with the China Jolly Roger.

Howdy, new guy here.

Thought i'd chime in here. I have an 85 blazer with a 383 stroker, and i too have been a victim of meillings cheap castings.

I'm still rebuilding the motor that selfdestructed due to a broke in half meiling oil pump.

Heres some pictures (sigh):

And to make matters worse, i decided to go with a Moroso bluprinted HV oil pump. And guess what, IT TURNED OUT TO BE A MEILING m55-hv .

Bearing material all throughout the motor :

Re: Got a response from Melling Oil Pump break...

No, i haven't contacted Meiling. Other than this thread (which i was directed to by GMCturbo on V8s-10.org) the only other person that has had this problem was a local racer named Ed Wright, apparently the same thing happend to his 10.0 second LT1 powered F-body.

The only thing i'm confused about is: Are the only pumps effected the M55 a's ? Because I have since bought a Moroso HV unit which unfortunately turned out to be made by Meiling, but anyway, the HV pump has a VERY THICK neck compared to the standard volume pump that snapped on my truck.

Although, i'm very concearned about using another Meiling product.

This has cost me a little over 1000 dollars in machine work not to mention time. And the motor only lasted for about 6 months beofere the catastrophic engine failure !

One of the worst parts about this is trying to explain to people what happend ! The machine shop guy looked at me like i was a moron, i mean litterally no one has heard of this ever happening except for of course Ed Wright me and Epix .

Also, the oil pump drive shaft was bent in the process and it messed up my main cap that the pump bolts on, right where the oil drive shaft runs through the cap it took a chunk out of the iron on the maincap, but the machine shop guy said it should be fine.

BTW, great site ! I'm glad i was sent here !

Heres the size difference between the M-55 A and the M-55 HV :

Looks a bit stronger and it pumps out a higher volume of oil. But i dont know..... I'm still scared to use it .

Welcome to the site.

Thanks for posting your experience.
At least we can clearly see it was not an isolated incident.

I bet a lot of guys are checking their receipts to see if they have an A and how far back they bought it.

Who makes the oem GM oil pump (GM #10055849) and is there a GMPP oil pump that we could check into?

I can't afford one motor much less 2.

Neither of those if NFG!
If you have to go Melling, go with the select series which is much thicker around the bolt boss.
