15-40 Deisel oil

Will running that Rotella 15-40 "ashless" oil in a gas truck hurt anything?

I bought some old 77 LWB 4x4 to have some fun with, and it came with all kinds of shit in the back....including a 55gallon barrel of that stuff. I was just wondering if I can run it in that truck?

It's not the best oil but it shouldn't hurt anything.

I'd run it in my Sy if I had 55 gal of it.

Just make sure that it's really what it says it is, and not a 55 gal drum of used oil.....

Or better yet, find somebody local to you that uses that stuff in their oil burner and sell it to them. My dad prefers it in his Powerstroke....That stuff isn't cheap, and an oil change on a Powerstroke is 15 or so quarts....

Re: 15-40 Deisel oil

Should be no prob IMHO I believe it has better sheer than "regular" dino oil. In my experience with big trucks which goes back to maybe before your parents were born :rotf: I used nothing but Rotella and had very good luck with it.

Re: 15-40 Deisel oil

My engine builder told me to break motors in using that instead of just regular dino oil cause of the sheer and also the better moly content it has. I use to run the synthetic version in the diesel jetta I once had and never had any oil related issues like some that used lesser grade diesel oil's

diesel oil is supposed to hold up to high temps better than gas oil. i talked to a rep not long ago. syn is still best though

Never been a fan of Syn. oil. The valvoline racing oil has a bunch of the anti wear agents in it too,. Still a rotella user here though. Comp cams recommends it for cam break in.
