15psi = 15* right?

Re: 15psi = 15* right?

my gas mileage barely changes when I run the mix.

I use this calculator when I started out mixing: http://www.bazellracefuels.com/Calcs/OC1.htm When you fill up enough times, you know just about how many gallons it takes to fill you up. I add 6 gallons of E85 before I add 91 and that gets me about 96 octane.

The down side to this is there aren't that many E85 stations in SoCal, luckily I have one about 2 blocks away here in Fullerton. E85 station locations can be found here: http://www.e85vehicles.com/e85-stations/e85-california.html

closest E85 is about 35 miles away haha... only logical solution to that is to bring a gas can with me when I know i'll be in the area with my DD.

What kind of mileage are you getting with the E85? I'm averaging 12.2mpg which is up a lil bit from 11.8mpg on the last tank of 91. Although I'm more concerned with the results of E85 performance wise. Are you able to run a solid 15psi with 0 knock with the E85 mix?

Re: 15psi = 15* right?

Before they built this station by my house, I used to go to the one in Santa Monica, luckily I worked about a mile away. I'd fill up two 5 gallon cans when I went there on top of my tank.

I haven't logged any runs with the mix yet, I haven't even driven the darn thing in about a month or so. I need to get datamaster to work on my laptop, I can't get it to work and haven't touched it for awhile. I can tell you that my butt-dyno feels good.

Since most of my driving is city, I don't figure my mileage! But on the highway with the mix, I average about 19-20mpg and that's cruising at 70-80.

I would just verify its running right on 93 octane before adding and tuning for Alky. You can use 2 gallon of xylene to a full tank of gas and that would be about 93.5 octane.

11.8 to 12.2mpg is even bad gas mileage for a SyTy unless you drive pretty hard regularly or are doing a lot of city driving. Overly rich fueling can also cause knock.

damn! 19-20?? The 12 i'm getting IS highway mileage. Might have to make a trip to Ventura this weekend to try this E85! Does the Ty run bad if you did a stronger mix say like 50/50?

DO NOT RUN E85 on a stock chipped truck/stock fuel sytem.

You'll be rebuilding it again real fast.

E85 is great if you have all the appropriate parameters in place,if not :kboom:

I have told a few members whom have reached out to me over the past few years to try a 25-30% E85 mix in their trucks to try and battle knock. The low percentage of it in the fuel system is enough to bring some much needed octane and it leans out the fuel mixture a bit (most of these trucks are running pig rich as far as I have seen). If doing a bunch of WOT, I would datalog a pull to make sure it isnt dangerously lean.

I would NOT recommend running a high-percentage amount of E85 if you dont have the proper fuel system components AND THE MEANS TO TUNE FOR IT.

Ive never put more than 6 gallons in at a time. Even when I drove back to NE, I had a ton of luggage, wife and small kid and I still averaged 19-20mpg, even going through the mountains.

Straight E85 on a stock setup isn't good, but while mixing it, my AFRs have been the same. I even have the stock FPR and fuel pump. Since you are still running with 14 gallons of straight 91 plus the 15% gasoline in E85, IMO you have plenty of lubricity in your system.

This is all my personal experience mixing E85 with 2 completely different vehicles, and I don't even come close to considering myself an expert on E85 usage.

This is where a A/F gauge comes into play. If 91 should be around 12:1 on 91, mixing it with 6 gallons (my experience) of E85, I get about 11:1 to 11.4:1 with no change in my tune. That's damn near what I get AFR wise with just 91 octane. I also sent my ECU to Hood and had him tune it for pump gas for my setup. I even passed SMOG with flying colors with this mixture.

Id say if youre gonna do it, try a little bit at a time and see how your AFRs change. Maybe start with 2 gallons, then 4, then 6. That's how I worked my way up to 6 gallons E85 per fill up. I really need to get my coilovers adjusted correctly and aligned, then datamaster to work on my laptop and then Ill post up a log or two. Might be awhile though.

I would rather mix ethanol into straight gas.You ever heard of somebody spraying e85 into their alky injection setup? Too many variable for me.At least with straight methanol I know what I got.

Re: 15psi = 15* right?

I dont know of any alky pumps that are ethanol compatible.

Mixing e85 with pump is no big deal. Truck will run fine if you are within striking distance of the right ratio.

I agree, but I'm just saying that E85 doesn't have a set octane rating where methabol is always the same.Anything that will increase octane will work as long as you know what you got
WB02 owns.

Sorry for the :hijack:

When you use DM, do you use the dyno function?
