The outer diameter is different.
153 tooth flywheels are 12 3/4" in diameter
168 tooth flywheels are 14" in diameter
You'll have to get a different starter and make sure you have the right holes in the block for the starter to bolt up.

is this the reason that the stock starter has a hard time turning the engine ?

nd,

No, I think it's the solenoid and purple wire problem. All of the heat that the starter gets pretty much ruins the solenoid, and the resistance in the solenoid purple increases. So, I guess some of the things the guys have done are to heat shield the whole mess, increase the size of the purple wire and go w a Mini-Starter like the CVR.

I've got the CVR and need to figure out how to heat shield it. Guess this belongs in the Elect section.

I have replaced the small wire 6 years ago.The solenoid is one year old , and the downpipe was shielded
I had difficulties turning the old high tolerances engine
CVR is on its way home since there is no way to turn this baby with the stock starter
Im on my way to buy a real thick wire for the battery that rest at the rear
