19" rim ?

sorry to bother everyone with a tire question again but i have a chance to buy a set of c6 vette rims local, i like the z06's better but these are factory rims with good rubber and are very local to me. the tire sizes are 245-40-zr18 and 285-35-zr19's . is anyone running this set-up or have a opion an how they would look as far as tire size and spacing ? i dont really know what the offset on these rims are yet as i will probably take a look at them on wensday. i didnt really want to do a 19" rim but the deal is kinda hard to pass up.

Re: 19" rim ?

what is the safest diameter diffrence our trucks can run ? or must they be the same ? ive been looking at repop z06's on ebay , 9.5 front and 10.5 rears and want to run the fattest possible tire in the rear , the z06 would all be 18" rims ,but always wondered about size diffrence because of the awd. what tire combo would you suggest for a z06 set up , it seems you got the tire thing all figured out.

Well Jorgensen just posted this

(the transfer case in our trucks can tolerate a maximum of about .2" difference between front and rear for any kind of duration)

I've never read anything that had a exact number to it, so I would say this is probably pretty close. I know Subaru used to tell us that even tires that are the exact same size must be within a 32nd or two. Now I'm pretty confident that is way too conservative, because I've seen people with Subaru's who never rotate their tires and have came in with completely bald fronts and 3/4 tread back tires and didn't have a issue. Now did this cause any damage to the transfer case, probably but this is also a extreme case of size differnece.

For tire sizes something quick I came up with is

Front: 265/35R-18 = 25.3
Rear: 305/30R-18 = 25.2

I'll see if I can come up with something else later.

EDIT:

If you want to push it you could do

Front: 275/35R-18 = 25.6
Rear: 315/30R-18 = 25.4 ( 315 does require a 11" wide wheel, but you could try it on a 10.5" )

or run the above 265 for a closer overall diameter.

Re: 19" rim ?

i like the c-5 alittle more than the c-6 but they are both nice. TO many rim choices. i dont really like chrome that much , but after seeing asman truck kinda like the chrome wheels. thought about black z06's but my ty is black and kinda wondering if that just might be to much black. you know how it goes..... no matter what rims and tires you get you always sit back and llok at it a say to yourself " i think i should have got the other rims i was thinking about" .

For what it's worth, I'm going 18x9.5 on the front and 18x12 on the rear like Ashman, but with 295/35/18 & 345/30/18 BFG Drag Radials on the Ty :2cents: !

i thought i read it a thread that anything wider than a 275 on the front will cause interfearance with turning radius ?

Re: 19" rim ?

On the money spacing and a little clearance work. I think Ash is running the same setup? Maybe he will chime in here and let us know what and how he did it. It will work on my Ty though.

Re: 19" rim ?

just caught this thread. i'm running the 18x9.5 fronts and 18x10.5 rears. the front wheels do rub the lower control arm at full lock but i'm sure that could be remedied with a little creative grinding. i'm also running 245/40/18 up front and 275/35/18 out back but, would go wider if i were doing it again.

1" spacers, on the rears, worked out just rite for my combo

that is correct for a 17", but it is dependent on the rim width too.

Re: 19" rim ?

I just really wouldn't do a staggered diameter setup like that. When you get different tire sizes to make it fit right on our trucks, it'll look all goofy (more tire sidewall up front and lower profile in the rear). Not worth it IMO.

Re: 19" rim ?

ooh ooh let me, I never post anything. if you start with the same size wheel (17,18..) and end with the same size sidewall. then there is no difference save for width/contact patch!!!!

yes! I don't know jack about syty's just want one and finaly got to answer yes! Tina you fat lard

Can you explain how that's true? You can have a 17" wheel that's 9.5" wide with a 275/40 on it, and the same diameter wheel, but insead 11" wide with a 315/35 and have a much greater contact patch with the same size sidewall...

Re: 19" rim ?

im gonna pass on the 18/19 wheels, nice cause they were local but i noticed right away about the diffrence in sidewall height and it does look alittle funny. im going to go 18's all the way around, 9.5" in the front and minimum a 10.5" in the rear. i want to get a decent amount of side wall as i really dont care for the rubber band look. i want some decent side wall and a wide contact , may see what available in chrome z06's , 11" -12" would be nice.
